Orb media sharing

I was wondering if anybody uses this software and if so, how safe is it in terms of protecting what you are looking at. Hypothetically, if I was streaming a divx movie (that I didn't have the original dvd for-(illegal)), would orb know what I was looking at and notify the "authorities"? I would also be streaming with evdo (aliant (bell) canada).
Thanks!

Re: Orb media sharing

I use this software all the time and it completely safe. And I believe that if you have a router then the movie is streamed directly from your home pc to whatever device. Even so, they dont track your usage even if the movie does pass through their servers. Trust me I do it all the time. I've been using orb now for about 6 months.

Re: Orb media sharing

lol... yeah entirely safe they dont track what or how much you share you should worry more about your ISP's rules on running a "server" or your cell phone providers download limit... raely are either an issue

Re: Orb media sharing

I've been using it for at least a couple years now. Streamed many shows, movies, mp3s, etc. Although recently I started having issues streaming tv shows recorded in Media Center (.dvr-ms). Says codec is missing. But other than issue which is probably something I did Orb is great!

Re: Orb media sharing

I just started using orb yesterday and it's a joy to use. I have it on my second pc which is a lesser pc (it's only 1000 mhz) but it still streams my stuff fine...well it has a little trouble with video files. I'm going to set up another account for my other pc which has a 2.6 mhz processor and streaming movies will be a breeze.

Re: Orb media sharing

sweet thats awesome to hear, such a cool program. I love having access to my computer through evdo anywhere i want. Hopefully my "unlimited" evdo plan doesn't get too scrutinized when streaming! (They haven't said anything yet fortunately)

Re: Orb media sharing

Please be careful if you are on Verizon. They are watching ALL accounts that reach an 8gb threshold on data plans. (This would be very hard to hit)

Re: Orb media sharing

i believe Orb facilitates a connection to your home connection and none of the actual bandwidth is routed through their central servers.

And RE: Sprint thresholds, i believe they are a bit more lenient but they do catch the occasional tetherer..
