I agree Draiko, my thoughts exactly. I got my invite to Skyfire 2 days ago and downloaded it immediately. While I'm getting faster page loads from Skyfire than I am with Opera Mobile 9.5. I'm using Opera Mobile 9.5 build 1660 and it has been the best so far, and I absolutely love the user interface on Opera, but having flash in my browser is totally cool. Zooming in and out on the Opera is the best I have seen outside of an iPhone. Also, not sure if this is normal, but when I am browsing with Skyfire and I answer an incoming call, after I hang up Skyfire says it's lost it's connection and closes. "Connection to Skyfire service was lost. You may be in an area of limited or no data coverage. Please check network coverage and try again" That is soooo gay. With Opera I can pick right back up where I left off.

Is that normal Skyfire operation?

I guess Skyfire needs constant communications with the network to remain active, even if your just reading an article. Also, I have been spoiled with the tabbed browsing of Opera 9.5, and not having it on Skyfire sux pretty bad. I also feel like the zoom feature, as Draiko mentioned, is poorly implemented on Skyfire, at least compared to Opera. When watching videos on YouTube or NFL.com or whereever I always have to zoom out several steps. I wished it were a bit more intuitive like Opera.
I like the SmartFit within Skyfire, but wish it would switch to that mode only once you zoomed in, the way Opera Mobile does.

I was just now switching between Opera Mobile 9.5 and Skyfire on nfl.com, and while it looks much more like the real web page on Skyfire, it's very buggy and has to update content all the time when spanning around the paged zoomed in, and often gets stuck. So that explains the longer page load times with Opera since it loads the whole page to your phone, while Skyfire only loads the portion you are looking at, at any giving moment.

I guess at this point I like them both for different reasons, but if I'm just reading articles Opera is the winner. I can't wait until Opera 9.51 comes out with integrated Flash.

Re: Skyfire Support

Finally got the beta.

Wow... this can't be real. Is there really no stop button? And no way to see+copy the URL of the page you are currently looking at? Is that even possible? Words can't desribe how lame that is. How does someone survive if they possess the knowledge needed to be a part of a browser's production, but are so stupid that they overlook these things?

So is there no way in Skyfire to do something akin to right clicking on a link and selecting "save target as" or right clicking on an image and selecting "save image as"? If not, what a retarded thing to leave out to make your browser worthless.

Were the developers sitting around one day when someone said "Let's make a mobile browser that will do everything imaginable except the basic necessities... those are too easy to implement"?

i just got my invitation for skyfire and got it right away. Pretty much like everybody has said i hate the fact you cant watch videos full screen and there is not copy or paste or saving pics. Also the zooming is not that great it zooms in and it looks kind of wierd. Moving around and zooming in on Opera is much better and more responsive.

Re: Skyfire Support

Also just got Skyfire... the first thing that really irritated me is that whenever the data connection drops, for whatever reason (call comes in, not using the browser for a few minutes, put device on standby, etc), then Skyfire TOTALLY gives up and exits. That's VERY irritating to me. I presume it just can't figure out how to restart a connection to the proxy server, but its still stupid... Opera Mini doesn't have that problem (nor did Blazer 1 or Xiino, all proxied browsers).

I will probably refuse to use it until this misfeature gets fixed...

Re: Skyfire Support

Used Skyfire a little more. I'm really liking the overall experience. The "smart fit" works much better than I expected based on comments in this thread. I actually can't see how smart fit could work better (for the pages that I've used it on anyway). It formats the text on message board posts so it fits just right when zoomed in. Maybe I just haven't used it enough to find pages where it doesn't work right.

There are four things that, if fixed, would make this the best browser that I could expect to see on a PPC:
- No "stop" button
- No way to view+copy the URL of the page you are currently viewing
- No way to save images
- No way to click on a link and "save target"

Skyfire Beta

Is it considered Warez to put this in a ROM? Or can we put a disclaimer, because this is freeware, it's just that you need an email and password to access it....

Please???

If you can't post it here, would you consider posting the rom elsewhere? I got in on the skyfire beta and it's the best mobile browser I've ever used. Would love to see it better integrated in a rom.

It would be a waste to put a Skyfire cab here or in a rom for other people. It works with your phone number.
You could post the cab here all day but it wouldn't work for anyone other than people who have already been sent the text to dl it and if thats the case we can just sign into skyfire and DL it again.

Long answer short you wouldn't really be helping anyone just taking up more space in a rom with a App they couldn't use.
