easiest way to create icons!?!?

Looking to make my own icons from images,

I understand they need to be in .ico file format, which in all reality I have no clue what that is..
But that said I would like to know if there is a program out there to convert .gif or .jpg to .ico.

Also what size does it need to be?

Looking to make icons for ultimate launcher

THANKS GUYS!

Re: easiest way to create icons!?!?

You really need to download an Icon creation program. I use Axialis Software's IconWorkshop. It is very easy to use you can import pretty much any image and turn it into an icon with the appropriate resolutions needed for your pocketpc. I think they have a trail. I had a copy of it already before UL came out and luckily UL used icos and not some strang png set up like SBP PP.

The sizes are going to be 48x48 for really large icons, 32X32 for normal etc. These sizes are all contained within one ico file though you do not need to size them individually.

Re: easiest way to create icons!?!?

Actually found a really cool site with more icons then I'll know what to do with thanks..

http://www.iconarchive.com/category/...ion-icons.html

Also on a side note, UL was just too much for me, but I would of finished it eventually, it was very unstable and was locking up on me

Re: easiest way to create icons!?!?

im a graphic designer what i do is either make them or you can d/l them from deviant art.com then find the icon you wish to use
go here (http://ico.bradleygill.com/advanced.php) it will change it from a .png to a .ico image that will alow you to use as an icon you might have to shrink it down i use p/shop for that or you can use your paint program and shrink it down to 32x32

Re: easiest way to create icons!?!?

IconWorkshop will shink them to the set of sizes you choose automatically. Since the Icons dont scale it is really best to save 2 or 3 different sizes in the ico so you can make the icon bigger or smaller if you choose.

I use 32X32 for normal but it goes up to 48X48 while it is being pushed it is kind of like the iphone keyboard effect.
