Jive talk is the best, by FAR. Never disconnects, AWESOME interface. Its in alpha right now, so you cant access preferences, and the battery usage is a bit large, but its still MILES better than Slick, IM+ and Octro, all of which I used to use.

I gave the Jive Talk app a whirl and its pretty good...besides the battery sucking that it does lol

The next version of it will hopefully be a keeper:)

Thats what I use on my iPod Touch and what my iPhone friends use =P

Yea it doesnt wake up but it does leave you a sound and you have your messages that were sent saved no matter what :)
I hope it gets worked on very well and soon we can have away messages :)
and huge amount of ram consumption 1400k it says .. thats battery killer :-P but hey its only alpha

at the end of the day, i always go back to agile. I do use octro because it has the custom away messages... but its connection is way too fickle. The aim craps out on me regularly. Agile does everything I want it to do except for the custom away messages.

Agile has so many features though, the walkie-talkie-esque push to talk and the picture sending, not to mention the smooth user interface. On top of that the vibration alerts work perfectly and it wakes up the phone as well.

Slick is a nice app, but you need to use something to trigger your web connection... (agile works so nicely that I use slick as a secondary IM)

The new mymobile AOL is nice in that it keeps you logged in even though you close the program, so you're not wasting battery. However thats only very effective if you have a customized away message available.

At the end of the day the only problem with agile is the cost... I paid that back in the day before I could find another free im app. But I've had friends who did the free trial... and it expired, yet without paying somehow theyre still able to use the software, go figure.
