Another New WM Browser Released: Torch Mobile (Webkit Based)

All the sudden we're knee high in Window Mobile web browsers, but I'm not complaining. Check out http://www.torchmobile.com/

This company just lunched a new product at the Mobile World Congress today based on the Webkit engine, which I believe is the same engine Safari utilizes on the iPhone.

Anyway, they're inviting people to download it and try it out today!

Looks interesting...but currently doesn't support WM5. So I guess I'm SOL.

But thanks for posting wjrandon!

Forgive my ignorance but how do you even enter a web address?

On my right softkey is see: "Show address". If I hit that then enter something.....what do I do next?

EDIT: nevermind, you have to hit "return" on the keyboard....as if you were using a PC.

**update**

LOL..S**T SUX. s**t REALLY sucks. Renders horrible, slow,(took about 3 minutes to render cnet.com pie takes about 20-25 seconds) a must uninstall.

trakslacker 02-11-2008 02:51 PM

eh...not digging it that much. I know its still a very rough beta, but I think there will be better options out there (Skyfire). Also, it doesn't seem terribly quick, even compared to PIE.

I agree completely.

I crashed about 4 times trying to load cnn.com. It didn't even get the page up once. It was so slow while doing so i thought it was chipping the page out of concrete.

I thought it displayed pictures pretty well though, and the option to zoom to varying degrees was nice. Too bad it didn't function properly.

wjrandon 02-11-2008 02:55 PM

I thought the speed was alright, cnn.com and espn.com loaded with respectable speeds. My beef was the lack of full page rendering, where was the tap and zoom feature they listed on their webpage? Navigating within this browser is a little tricky.

Anyhow, it's still nice to see so many companies trying to improve the browsing experience on our phones.
