NetFront 3.5 (no, its NOT slow)

http://www.access-company.com/produc.../35_wm_tp.html

Okay so I installed this browser and its wicked fast. It zooms flawlessly, it renders pages in full (there are some issues with Engadget Mobile that are bugging me but it renders my full Myspace page even, which used to crash Opera and PIE would take literally 5 minutes to process), and it scrolls TOTALLY smoothly.

If you are waiting for Skyfire like I, download this, you won't be disappointed!

TalynOne 02-09-2008 06:27 AM

Much better than earlier Netfront versions. A little slow, I think I'll stick with Opera Mini running under JBed for now. I don't like the fact that a zoom out only gives you a view of part of the web page, and not the whole page. I felt I had to scroll too much to get to the section of a web page I wanted to read. Loading is much faster than IE, but not as fast as Opera Mobile or Mini.

Incidentally I actually prefer browsing on Opera Mini over Mobile Safari on the iPhone (which I also own), because Opera Mini intelligently sizes text on zoom in. On the iPhone I end up zooming in/out/scrolling every which way like crazy to read a paragraph on cnn.com, with Opera Mini, I don't.

Edit: The bookmark browser is neat but gimmicky.

Goddbody 02-09-2008 10:00 AM

Yeah I was waiting on Skyfire too, but hell I will use this for now. The browser is lightening fast. I can't believe this is just a BETA version.

dearls 02-09-2008 10:37 AM

Just downloaded this this morning and Damn!!! this is sweet!!! very fast and smooth running. So far the best I have tried and I too cant belive its a beta version. Tried accesing my online banking and it worked perfect.
Will post back if I run into any problems later but dont really forsee any.

**Keep playing around till you fubar it then restart and do it all over again***

edgeoffranklin 02-09-2008 12:49 PM

I downloaded Opera mobiIt is much better IE, but now I using NetFront 3.5 and it is amazing. It is so fast and the page moves around as if on air. This is now my browser of choice. Skyfire will have have a hard time beating this.

caddieguy02 02-09-2008 01:20 PM

downloading now, will post my review on it later...thanks for the post...scales being tipped for u bro

qwho 02-09-2008 01:47 PM

I've got both skyfire and this, and I think skyfire is better.

There is no softkey for back... you must click operation, back
Fonts are weird... like courier new or something... ugly
The zooming is unruly, it is difficult to navigate a page
Myspace still hasn't loaded, and what I see isn't nice

In skyfire, myspace loaded very nice, fast. Even played music off of a friend's page. Also, skyfire keeps the screen lit. Not something everyone likes, but I do.

If I didnt have the skyfire beta, I'd stick with opera mini.

fletch713 02-09-2008 02:29 PM

This is the best browser I've played with thus far. Webpages are rendered well and quickly. The finger flick action works well. I think the zoom in and out feature works weel; particularly when you can see the zoomed in image moving in the background of the zoomed out image. Of course, Skifire and Opera 9.5 are coming out soon, but until then this is my browser of choice.

The font seems to be a bug... if you go to the settings and hit fonts, then choose Tahoma and close it, it stops using Courier.

acs12798 02-09-2008 03:12 PM

Are there any keyboard shortcuts for this browser that would be useful? Anything for increasing or decreasing the zoom level? I know the double tap zoom, but sometimes in zoomed in mode I like 75% and sometimes 100% depending on what I am reading. Does anyone know of a list of these command if they exist?

EtherealRemnant 02-09-2008 03:13 PM

I'm trying to figure that out... there's a manual on ACCESS' site where you download the browser but I was in too much of a rush and so I never grabbed it lol.

alpha_omega 02-09-2008 03:26 PM

Using this right now and think its better then opera mini 4. Wish it had flash support :( Still waiting for my skyfire beta.

caddieguy02 02-09-2008 03:53 PM

eh, doesnt seem to be any faster on my mogul...but i do however like the fact that myspace loaded all the way, i could see the backgrounds on peoples pages, and the music did play...also when i go to a sports teams page ( the atlanta braves) it gave me the official full website and not the mobile version...

Big D5 02-09-2008 04:42 PM

which one are you using? 3.5 or the 3.5 windows concept?

EtherealRemnant 02-09-2008 05:01 PM

The 3.5 concept works GREAT for posting. I'm actually really impressed with the browser. I just wish it had flash support!

I've only gotten one out of memory error - on a HUGE myspace page... other than that, it works great.

kevinb13 02-09-2008 05:31 PM

sorry for the newb question but when i download to my phone where does it go?

wmdunn 02-09-2008 05:56 PM

Should be listed under programs. I placed mine on my startmenu and made it my default browser. Now I connect with a single click...

kevinb13 02-09-2008 06:11 PM

i mean before you install it. i cant find the cab file

eballin 02-09-2008 06:25 PM

yea im having the same problem right now. i have no idea where the cab is.. i just keep on gettin alot of files.

i had the same problem the first time i downloaded it. i then redownloaded the file and saved it on my computer, then copied the the entire file to my 6700. unzipped and it worked fine.

netfront is slow on 1x but then again, everything is slow on 1x...i'm hoping to test it over evdo soon, sucks i have to cross town to receive evdo!(come on sprint!)

3.5 windows concept cut and paste works but I haven't tried go advanced or adding a file

wmdunn 02-10-2008 10:15 AM

When you d/l, hit "save as", and save it to your storage card. Then, use file explorer to locate and install. I'm liking it alot...just wish it had flash.

eballin 02-10-2008 10:51 AM

hey. i got it to work and im using it now. i went to the website on my phone and downloaded it.. and its fast as hell. but just takes a lil to get used to. but this will hold me untill i get my GOLDEN TXT from skyfire lol

InvincibleLiving 02-10-2008 12:02 PM

downloading now...i'll report back later with my thoughts on it...

sportster44 02-10-2008 09:03 PM

Loving this. Makes me want to surf the web with my PPC.
Not finding it slow at all, compared to PIE.

xweaponx 02-10-2008 09:28 PM

This is a great browser.

Between this and Opera Mini 4, I am a content man...

The rendering is fast and crisp and displays full animations, pictures, etc with no memory issues. The "page mapping" icon displayed in the top right corner to indicate location on a page is very handy. I would give it a 8.9/10!

InvincibleLiving 02-10-2008 10:07 PM

i'm very underwhelmed with it... i always use espn.com as my benchmark site, and it took forever to load... that's all i needed to know right there. if it werent for the speed issues with pie sometimes i'd be content with it.

munnarg 02-10-2008 10:11 PM

I tried it but not really all that impressed. I'll stick with Opera Mini and PIE for now till my account is set up for Skyfire.

winmobilelawyer 02-10-2008 10:37 PM

wow. the rendering of images in this browser its absolutely GORGEOUS. And the panning response is PERFECT. And yes it is pretty darn fast. I mean cmon, using espn.com over Rev 0 connection? Does espn.com really load that fast in Opera Mini?

This browser is still a little quirky, I just tried to use a secure site (https://) and it repeatedly asked me if I wanted to continue because it didnt recognize the certificate. I'll try another secure site to see if maybe it was just that one.

But so far... A- is my grade for this one. The rendering alone is just unbelievably amazing. I mean the pictures literally look as good on my Touch as on my Sony Vaio laptop screen. And the zoom is great. Double tap and pan around a full shot of the page while the zoomed in version is still panned around in the background so you can get right where you want to without a mistake.

I can't wait to see how the full release turns out!

EDIT/UPDATE: Yep, seems it was just that one secure site that was giving me problems, so all this browser is missing is flash i take it? lol The challenge has been extended Skyfire. You better come out fighting

mg48 02-10-2008 10:59 PM

I like IE better. I dont like Opera either. Must just be me. Plenty of you seem to like them. I dont like panning around to see stuff. IE takes a little time ot render the page in the one column view but it does a good job and all I have ot do is scoll down.

Sprints700wx 02-11-2008 02:13 AM

has to be by far the BEST Web.Browser...I've tried them all and this one right here takes the cake..hands.down..Nice fyned...

dew.man 02-11-2008 09:12 AM

This is the best thing since sliced bread!

wjrandon 02-11-2008 01:39 PM

NetFront 3.5 beta is giving me memory error messages and causing my device to lockup... when it does work it loads CNN.com just as fast as PIE. I'm still waiting on Skyfire to come to my rescue.

woody88 02-11-2008 02:21 PM

this browser cause the same memory error as Picsel. i will also be waiting for skyfire and opera mobile 9.5 as well.

Elaida 02-11-2008 03:02 PM

This is probably a stupid question but I installed it and when I try to go visit a site I get an error saying that
Cannot load page
Type: DNS no server is specified.

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

ycats 02-11-2008 03:11 PM

maybe it's me, but I went to that site and can't find a .cab file for it

Pasukun 02-11-2008 03:25 PM

It's all good but.. while the page is loading.. you can not click on any link unless the page is fully loaded or stop the loading.

wldthng842 02-11-2008 03:29 PM

NetFront 3.5 on my HTC Touch in EVDO territory won't even open this page, let alone let me post. It runs out of memory. Boo Hiss

wldthng842 02-11-2008 03:33 PM

never mind, i had it set to show 40 posts per page, setting it at 20 per page works great. a small price to pay in my opinion
