VITO FindMe Gps....

**UpDate 2/12 This Works see Post #35 ONLY with Titan Rom 3.16 (6.0) or a build off of it.(DcDs 2.x.x / No2Chem 6.1 with GPS) and radio 3.27***
I was wondering if anyone has tried this? It looks interesting and is free. It sends your GPS location to people in a sms message. I downloaded it to my 6800 and it gave me a activation code for free also. Messing with it now......

caddieguy02 02-08-2008 11:53 PM

how u like the program so far bro? i also got a program similar to this, put its only use is for if u lose ur phone...if ur phone is lost or stollen u send it a text message from another phone, and it will in return send u a text of ur phones coordinates...u put those coordinates into any GPS device and it will tell u where ur lost or stolen phone is...i even tried it, sent a text to it from my girls phone, gave me coordinates, put them in my TOMTOM and gave me the address to her house where i was haha...

caddieguy02 02-08-2008 11:55 PM

nice find, im downloading now...thanks for sharing the freeware...scales being tipped for u bro...

caddieguy02 02-09-2008 12:35 PM

hey bro, u posted this last night, then i got to messing around on Handango, i downloaded 10 different programs off there, i downloaded almost every free program they had on there haha...=D>

InvincibleLiving 02-10-2008 02:26 PM

Thanks LS, how was the activation code sent to you? i got an email saying thanks for d'ling but i didnt see any code... Thanks for putting us on to this too didnt realize it was free but always wanted to try it out.

caddieguy02 02-10-2008 03:19 PM

i didnt get an activation code sent to me either...im confused cuz i sent the code word i had set up to my phone and it came thru as a regualr text nothing else...and plus the handango download says this...

Requirements:
Windows Mobile 2003(SE)/ 5.0/ 6.0 Pocket PC Phone Edition with built-in GPS receiver or external Blutooth GPS
Get an activation code

so how is this even gonna work on the mogul anyways????

tonykovac 02-10-2008 04:29 PM

Go to Vito's site, not Handago. The program can be downloaded and activation obtained from www.vitotechnology.com.

Actually the link to obtain an activation code is at the bottom of this page:

Cheers, --TonyK.

Sorry about the delay in response.. I believe I just went into the app where the settings and the about tab are and clicked About. I think there was a addy I had to follow and I got the code in a email. I haven't looked at it since the night I posted this thread. Its snowed in Maine the last 3 days I wasn't standing in it to get a GPS signal. (Freezeing Ba!!s out) Any opinions on it yet? I have it installed but still don't know if it works.

caddieguy02 02-10-2008 06:04 PM

i sent a text with my code to my phone from my girlfriends phone, and a text in return said " failed to obtain a GPS fix" so i dont think it works with the mogul...ima play with it more and see...and if anyone gets it to work please post...but in the meantime my opinion is that it doesnt work with the mogul....it should tho once the REV A and GPS rom is released

Did you have live search or Google maps open and a active GPS connection? You have to turn on the GPS with Gmaps/live search to use TomTom. Or Babs GPS app. Try to open one of them connect to some GPS satellites and then try the txt from your ol ladys phone while connected.

InvincibleLiving 02-10-2008 10:05 PM

i'll mess with it later... thanks for the follow up 'bubbles'.

Lsme420 02-11-2008 09:46 PM

**Update**
This Works.....The snow finally stopped falling and I ventured out side and got it to work. Sent A few times with no errors.
What we need is a way to enable GPS full time and this app would rock.
Heres the scoop. As of right now the GPS on the 6800 is only active if connected with googlemaps/livesearch or a app such as the one Babs has some place here on the Geeks.
So I launched Google maps and got a active connection with 5 satellites(keep this running).
I went into my messages and sent sent myself the word GPS (key word). Code word is case sensitive. Meaning if your code word is GPS then gps would not work
20 seconds later I received the message and didn't even check it the next thing I knew the Vito Findme today plugin started to do something. The little gray sat icon turned green and then a sent message read across the plugin...
No crap a few seconds later I received a text from myself and it read like this........(Sub Note "Stalkers and Axe murders need not look bellow")

HaHa ....
If you cant get Google maps or livesearch to connect then its a problem with your ppc. It takes a while sometimes you might need to go outside. Ill put it in steps.......

#1 Open Google maps, click "Menu",then "use GPS"...
#2 Make sure in the Blue bar across the top of Google maps you see"GPS active(#)".....Keep this running just hit ok DON'T hit the x and close it....
#3 Go into your messages and send a text to yourself with the default code word (GPS) and send. Code word is case sensitive. Meaning if your code word is upper case GPS then lower case gps would not work..
#4 Thats it. Close it out and wait a few seconds and when you receive the text you sent yourself you will see the plugin turn green and it will do its thing, and a few seconds later you'll get your GPS position in a new txt.
#5 go back and close Google maps if you want I leave it run. The GPS still works even without a active internet connection I shut down my data connection and leave Google maps run for the GPS....Here is what the Txt looks like....(Sub Note "Stalkers and Axe murders need not look bellow")

I thought that to but then I was like Na he just means maybe the GPS will stay on all the time or something. Like hes looking forward to bug fixes. Either way I edited the first post to avoid more confusion.

caddieguy02 02-12-2008 12:59 AM

haha yall fellas makin fun of me? haha...nah im using the ROM update that HTC released in November...2.17...ill wait for the offical release to upgrade...but i did update google maps and livesearch...thanks

caddieguy02 02-12-2008 01:05 AM

Lsme420 02-12-2008 10:33 AM

I must say my name starts with a L not a I.....So your using sprint? Well since the 3.16 (GPS) rom came out a few weeks back I have been using DcDs2.0.0... He has newer roms out but to me this is the most stable as of now. I uploaded it for ya try this link. http://rapidshare.com/files/86675817...print.exe.html
The only bug I see in it is sometimes the data will disconnect on its own.

InvincibleLiving 02-12-2008 02:07 PM

oh wow thats amazing, so now we need an always on solution for our gps.

InvincibleLiving 02-12-2008 02:34 PM

Play Text hide and go seek. So nautica2450 who do we talk to about a always on GPS app?

caddieguy02 02-12-2008 09:29 PM

yea thats my concern, if who ever u wanna track doesnt have googlemaps or livesearch connected the program is no good...also if u have to be outside in order to get a GPS signal its no good...so if the person is inside somewhere it wont find them? so yea we need a GPS always on program to make this program actually usefull...u could use this to find ur lost phone to is whats neat...hmmmm technology...i love it

Lsme420 02-13-2008 12:16 AM

Ok so this is it. This is the Post that makes this program rock. The always on GPS/a-GPS? It works.
So I was walking around the Geeks and I found this thread

A-GPS reg edit
HKLM/Software/HTC/SUPLAGPS/
GPSMode --> Change to 4 (orginal value 2)

It said more than that Im just showing you whats important for this post.....But,,,,

And I was wondering since a-GPS searches off of a cell tower and GPS sats would this be a always on connection we need? Well it is.....
I did the hack waited 2 minuets and soft rest the phone.
When it booted back up I sent myself the Code word and no joke the plugin started to do its thing, It turned orange then green. No data connection,no Google maps, no live search, just straight PPC all by its lonesome. and a few seconds later i Got my Text...
So all you need to do now is Dl the App from http://vitotechnology.com/en/products/findme.html
and then do the reg edit.
HKLM/Software/HTC/SUPLAGPS/
GPSMode --> Change to 4 (orginal value 2).....
Tested a few times. Can I get a validation on this from another user? Remember Code word is case sensitive.....
Thanks verkion good lookin out.

A-GPS definition.

I just did the hack, next i'll reset and see what's what. i love this phone and i equally love this site!

Re: VITO FindMe Gps....

So is it possible for this program to locate someone who you are talking with?

example:

someone calls you and you want to know where they are....this program will give you the location?

Re: VITO FindMe Gps....

someone at xda-developers tested power consumption with GPS on and concluded that it uses TWICE as much power with the GPS chipset enabled.. I don't think having a GPS always on a good solution.

How this works is if you lost your phone you could send it a Txt message and it (your phone) would send you back the position where it is. EX,,,So if your spying on your girl (not recommended) and you sent her phone the txt "GPS" her phone would reply with her position.

Read post #35 A-GPS definition.. Your GPS is not always running. By always on I mean before the reg edit you had to connect to a sat with google maps then the VitoFindme would work. But now with the reg edit it opens by itself. Also the reg edit don't change your GPS it only enables your phone to use the aGPS also. Do people never read? The next person that reads this tread might need/want this program but only read your last post and think it don't work, or kills your battery in 30 min.. Did you even try this before your battery comment? Try it and then let us know how the batt lasts cause I have No problems with battery life.
