call tones for mogul

i noticed that the mogul does not support call tones, as a solution to anyone wanting call tones do this. call the sprint operator switch to any sprint pcs vision phone in my case i switched my ESN back to my old sanyo katana
i purchased a call tone and then i switched back to my mogul. the process worked for me. remember the call tone only last for 90 days.
also to avoid any prorated charges due to the change from power vision to pcs vision you need to do this on the first day of your billing cycle.

scroll down to the bottom of the 'forums' page and there is a section devoted to ringtones....

you have a PPC synched to a desktop, why would you ever need to buy a ringtone? Read that forum and it details free desktop mp3 editing software so you can create your own

There are even free websites linked there that will convert a song into a ringtone for you and you can download it to your desktop pc for transfer to your phone

Lights2486 01-21-2008 07:19 PM

he's referring to "Call Tones". When you call a person's cell and you get a song rather then the standard ring. That is a Call Tone, not a Ring Tone. A ring tone is when your phone rings, it plays a song rather then a ring.

a call tone is not a ringtone. it is a song someone else hears when they call u instead of ringing.

itsall_cooool 01-21-2008 10:19 PM

i believe thats called a 'ringback' tone, and sprint doesnt offer it on their service

tannis 01-21-2008 10:24 PM

oh contrare! sprint does offer calltones... my sis in law has a Sanyo Katana and she can get call tones... kinda sux if you ask me... we can put a man ont he moon but we can't give me mutant seabass with frikin lazers on their... oh uh I mean calltones yes!

itsall_cooool 01-21-2008 10:50 PM

well if so , i stand corrected, but i have yet to see them on any sprint site. and as far as I know, that feature is usually not phone dependent, it plays on the carrier end

Call Tones are a lot like ringers, but in reverse. You get to decide what the person calling you hears. So now, instead of the typical ringing sound, people who call you can hear a song, a funny sound effect, a TV or movie theme—whatever you choose! There are hundreds of unique Call Tones available for preview and purchase. All you need is a Sprint Power VisionSM or Sprint PCS VisionSM phone!

If you know the name/format of the file you obtained in the original post (and where it got placed in your phone) maybe someone here can figure how to make our own?

Call tones have been out for 2 years and some pretty intelligent folks on other forums haven't cracked this. Probably because its not a file that's downloaded to the phone, its stored on the network.

Unfortunately, I think this is uncrackable and unhackable.

I will also confirm the OP..I set a call tone up on my line with a 755p active, then activated my Mogul..call tone still works.

itsall_cooool 01-22-2008 10:04 PM

Well I always thought it was a network based ringback, so it seems Sprint decided to provide this to 'stupid' phones only (what reasoning they could have for not providing it to ANY phone is beyond me)

You could make the same argument for all the Sprint content. (SprintTV, Radio, Navigation, etc.)

haislip 01-22-2008 11:43 PM

i spoke with sprint's advanced tech (1-877-809-6696) and it seems that only sprint phones with a "device manager" can apply call tones. the prosess in my original post still works. if the "device manager" is the key... how do we get it for the mogul?

Same reason they only give REAL PIC MAIL to stupid phones...who the heck knows.

hexonic 01-23-2008 05:22 PM

Yeah there is no way to crack a call ton. all it does when you set one up is route your call through to a server that plays music instead of the normal ring. Its all on the system.

And yes the reason we don't get it is because the my constant manager. Handmark wants windows and blackberry users that use sprint to buy with a cc directly from them for some reason heh.

And its not the content manger you see on your phone im talking about. its the one in sprints systems. go to the sprint vision homepage on a normal phone and go to downloads-> My content. that is what you need.

SHARON33 01-24-2008 02:02 PM

IM a little confuse by your post. Are you saying that the mogul is not setup to get CALLTONES?

Ive had my mogul for abt a mt and a half and I have had 3 different calltones on it..

Didnt have to do anything extra..Just sign on to my account online and bought the tones from the DIGITAL lounge..And they were on within 5minutes or less

I've had several sprint phones and had call tones..And all I ever did was log online to my account or through the phone and bought it:???:

haislip 01-24-2008 08:31 PM

are the phones on the same account? because i know that with the mogul you can not get call tones because it doesn't have a device manager. a sprint rep told me that HTC is aware of this issue. hopefuly it can be resolved with the next software upgrade.

SHARON33 01-24-2008 09:23 PM

so how am i getting calltones on the mogul?

I bought all three calltones from the digital lounge for my computer, and been using them since early December..

Didnt have to do anything extra the tones were there in 5min. I purchased one a week ago and it works no problems

haislip 01-24-2008 10:20 PM

how do you access the digital lounge from a mogul to buy call tones. i tried and my mogul didn't allow it. i mean i can't even log on. i can log onto sprint's web page but thats it...nothing else. also i have the unlim. data plan.

itsall_cooool 01-24-2008 10:25 PM

Ringtones = your ringer that you hear when you get a call

Calltones (or Ringback tones) = what a caller hears when they CALL YOU instead of rrring-rrring while waiting for you to answer

The last two times I bought it from online, I havent been able to access it from my phone. But now looking at my account..I see they still have me under the A940...MAYBE THATS why i can still get it??

Lsme420 02-05-2008 07:15 PM

Ya it sucks if you have a 6800 on your account no luck. But at least we don't have to call Sprint any more every 3 months. Now if you have a phone that supports call tones you can just switch the phones on your account online From your Sprint online profile ,buy your new call tone and then switch back. Pain in the a** but only takes about 10 min. And about this no device manager what are they talking about why cant I do it online from the digital lounge like I do when I have my Razor v3 on my account? ( don't flame Razr strictly for call tones)

mgb22 02-12-2008 04:51 PM

One thing about swapping esn you need to tell them that it is a service swap because your phone is getting repaired. If you do not it will change your eligablity for a new phone and sometimes your contract. I know I work for sprint im a service Tech.

wldthng842 02-12-2008 05:34 PM

not true, if this phone you are swapping was previously on your account or is a refurbished model it will not reset anything, but if it is new or you've never used it then yes you should call in and have a note placed on you'd account because it should reset upgrade and might have upgrade fee

The reason you can not down load a call notes is because PDA do not support Content Manager File. Since other phone NON PDA have the contents Files, that is what holds and maintains all info for the downloads

Re: call tones for mogul

Hmmm well ESN swap into another phone add the call tone and then go back to your mogual and then you have call tone for as long as its available for... 90 days?!? then every time you want to add or do a call tone just esn swap into another phone and do it all over again! Easy said easy done no programs or anything to mess with except esn swap (phone swap)

Re: call tones for mogul

yeah I could also use calltones about a month or more ago and now when I tried to use the calltone connect to access more...I get sent to the homepage and do a search for calltones to no avail...and I also tried that really long url from someone in another thread and that doesn't work either...I think Sprint just came along and saw people enjoying themselves and decided to ruin their fun...thats what carriers do for their own fun...make us miserable...
