Anyway to connect to your pc with winmo 6.5 wirelessly?
What I am asking is if there is any way to connect to the computer using the phones network?
Some times I may be located somewhere out of town and may need to upload some files on my pc, but there is no way I can do that. The only way would be to set up a connection on your computer for it to be ready to accept your phones signal and so on. So that you can use your phones internet to connect to your computer while out of town and control it. Anyone find this possible? It would be great to do this. If there is no software for it, but it is possible and if it is my idea, I wish I knew programming to create it lol. |

Re: Anyway to connect to your pc with winmo 6.5 wirelessly?
I thought remote desktop only works if you connect to USB? Also can you control the pc through it?
Another thing is that if I use it the computer will need to accept it won't it? On PC to PC it just works, no need to accept haha. |

And yes you can enable option so that you don't need to accept connections.. I mean I own servers in Texas, Michigan and other countries that I Remote Desktop to all the time..would suck if I had to walk across 10 states and cross country borders just to hit accept ;) and you can even add SSL encryption too... If you use a router with a firewall you will have to open up the Remote Desktop ports..same for software firewalls if you use them.. |
Re: Anyway to connect to your pc with winmo 6.5 wirelessly?
I guess I learned something new and would like to try it. Can you guide me on this, and yeah I just thought it would be cool and somewhat useful for me, but don't know much about connections nor do I know what ssl encryption is lol.
I would like to know if this stores any memory on your phone or anything? Like the computer images it needs to load or something may take up some memory (Yeah ram but I'm talking about physical memory). If it does store memory is there any way to put it to store on storage card? Because I don't want my phones physical memory to get all bulky. Or does it remove all this stored data after you exit it and clear/ clean i completely and you regain back your physical memory completely? |

Remote Desktop is usually pre-installed on your phone...but you might need a newer version or to reinstall it if your using a custom rom that took it out... As for RAM usage, don't worry..all the processing is done by your pc at home...all the phone does is display it..similar to how your monitor doesn't need ram as it just displays whats sent to it.. |

Re: Anyway to connect to your pc with winmo 6.5 wirelessly?
Thanks for the link, also is remote desktop better than using Logmein.com? By how much? How much better is the performance and what's better?
Any page refresh lag? Hmm how do you check phone user name? The link you gave me doesn't show how to connect mobile phones but rather how to connect pc to pc? |

There really isnt much refresh lag but it depends on your connection.. As for difference between logmein..hard to say..as I said Remote Desktop is just already installed on your phone and on your PC..so its kinda the "Default" option..the advantages of Log Me In your going to have to get from their website or etc... |
Re: Anyway to connect to your pc with winmo 6.5 wirelessly?
I see. I can't get it to work. I have a network setup with 4 PCs and 1 external IP address and 4 internal. The one I want to connect to has the remote desktop option enabled. I put internal IP in computer address, user name (I have 2 user name on the computer I want to connect to so I use one of them). Password is no password and in the domain I put in my external IP address and it doesn't seem to work. Do I need to set anything else up?

Re: Anyway to connect to your pc with winmo 6.5 wirelessly?
I have windows firewall turned off on my PC.
Because I enabled 3389 both UDP/TCP int/ext to 3389 in the router. What do you mean internal IP to Internal IP? I am connecting my phone and not another PC lol. |

You are using your public IP to connect right? Also..you might have to setup port forwarding for port 3389 on the router to your local IP (starts with 192.168.x.x) |
Re: Anyway to connect to your pc with winmo 6.5 wirelessly?
Port forwarding is set up specifically on the IP that I want to connect to. My connect is probably dynamic, does it have to be static to be able to connect?

Re: Anyway to connect to your pc with winmo 6.5 wirelessly?
So I got it to work while connected to wifi. My phone viewed my desktop and I was happy. The problem is I want to do it while it is not in wifi but when I am out of town and need to use the phone network to connect. Is that possible?

Re: Anyway to connect to your pc with winmo 6.5 wirelessly?
I have a proper public IP address and firewall is off. I tried putting internal IP in the "computer" field and then input the correct user name and password for that internal IP of course and then in domain I put my public IP.
Also tried public IP in computer and still did not work. Are you getting it over 3g? Or only through wifi and/or active sync? By the way I have a dynamic and not a static address based on what the administrator has told me. |

And yes I am getting it over 3g..I've been using it for years.. |
Re: Anyway to connect to your pc with winmo 6.5 wirelessly?
Ok tried public IP in computer. Connected but I had a pop up saying:
"Cannot connect with current connection settings. To chagne your connection settings, tap Settings.". |

Re: Anyway to connect to your pc with winmo 6.5 wirelessly?
Wow I enabled data and it seems to work. Thanks gTen you were helpful. I am just not used to having data enabled manually lol. When I open opera mobile or opera mini data enables by itself and when I close it, it disables on its own.
Thank you! I am happy now. Also just curious about what domain is? Also will it matter if your connection is dynamic or static? |

And yes some apps are not able to get data on their own..happens all the time and its annoying >.> As for Domain..usually when you have a network you specify a domain...with this domain you can set group polices and etc...nothing to worry about.. but if you really want to know here is the wiki: Windows domain - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia |
Re: Anyway to connect to your pc with winmo 6.5 wirelessly?
So I guess that my IP is static since I know it? I think I only have 1 public IP, does that mean it's static?
|

Static means it never changes.. My home connection for example is generally a static IP..BUT it does sometimes change once a year or 2.. My cellphone connection, my IP changes every time I connect for the most part..thats dynamic.. So you can see in general if your public IP changes or not..some hosts also allow you to request static IPs too... As a mod I can see IPs and from the looks of it your IP hasn't changed since the beginning of this thread except one post where you seemed to have accessed from elsewhere..so from the looks of it your IP is static enough for a week..but on 01-02-2011 you had a different IP so doesn't look like its static enough for a month.. I would suggest to just in case setup a hostname for your IP so that its static.. |
Re: Anyway to connect to your pc with winmo 6.5 wirelessly?
Yeah I did use a different PC to reply to some messages.
I think my IP is permanently static unless the modem is restarted. Also do you have a hostname setup since your IP is Static? I mean I do not see I really need one that much. Does it improve performance? I am also curious why some hosts allow to request static IPs and what it does (Yeah they change dynamic to static.); does it change static to dynamic? By the way my remote desktop connection is setup so that like anyone can access it (the less secure one), is there anyway to limit it to just my phone to be more secure? |

your phone uses a dynamic IP as it changes every time you connect..if you want to limit it I guess you'll have to look up the IP range of Sprint and set on the RDP port to only allow that range and block all others in your firewall/router.. some hosts allow people to have static IPs if they need it..such as in your case.. It offers no performance increase..it just gives you the reliability that if you leave on say a trip..it won't change mid trip... |
Re: Anyway to connect to your pc with winmo 6.5 wirelessly?
Since it is not that urgent to me to actually have the need to access my PC then I don't think I need to worry about hosting.
Well thanks, I will do some of my research on how to keep it private access and allow for only my phone. As for look up the IP range of Sprint, IDk what you mean? |

Re: Anyway to connect to your pc with winmo 6.5 wirelessly?
I understood that a host will make a dynamic permanent IP.
It's just that I was saying that I do not need one since I don't have any urgency to access my PC very often. I know a hostname will be more reliable in that you will be able to connect to your PC through the host incase your IP changes on your home network. |
Re: Anyway to connect to your pc with winmo 6.5 wirelessly?
Side note, you can do this with an Apache also. I used one to remote admin windows servers. Works good.
