Question about phonealarm

I am interested in trying out phonealarm, but have a question from the existing users:

Can phonealarm automatically change activesync settings based on which computer it's connected to?

For some reason I am not able to sync contacts and calendar with both the mail2web personal exchange server and my work pc. I'd like a program to detect that I'm connected to my work pc and change my activesync settings to switch from connecting to the mail2web server to my laptop, and vice versa once I disconnect from the computer. Is this possible?

Don't think phone alarm is able to do that.

one of the reasons that i got rid of phonealarm is because it keep preventing me from connecting to my pc using activesync. the message that i kept getting was that my phone was in flight mode. eventually, i'd have to do a hard reset because i could never actually get rid of the program...even after uninstalling it.

That sounds like you had it setup that way under configuration: that is when set it up under profiles/schedule, you can have it switch to a certain profile based on if the device is plugged in or connected to AS. That's not a bug, but you were probably not aware of that setting and accidentally enabled it.

I was initially interested in phonealarm because I read it allows you to set on/off times for the radio. I installed the trial but didn't see that option. It also isn't too pleasing on the eyes, so I uninstalled it (again). Maybe once I've worked with WM for a while I'll be able to configure it properly. Right now its just not what I'm looking for.

On/Off for radio is done via Profiles.

So you set up a profile, call it Home: Radio On, BT On, Brightness on battery= 40%, Volume for notifications = 80%, Volume for phone calls = 80%

You can then set it to automatically come on: M, W, F = 8:30am, T, Th= 8:45 am

Now setup a profile, call it Night: Radio Off, BT off, Brigtness on battery = 20%, Volume for notifications = 0%, etc. etc. Have it turn "on" every night, 11pm.

You just have to take 10 mins and read the manual. Everyone seems to avoid that part but it's too overwhelming to just "figure it out".

As far as "not pleasing to the eye" that's why it's skinable and there are tons and tons of skins (or make your own). There are even some nice ones posted here at ppcgeeks.

I recently tried to go with PA and try some different setups. I didn't even last 12 hours. With the repeating notifications, LED support, Volume and brightness control and automatic profile switching (so I don't even have to think about it), it's a no brainer for my needs.

Alright! I'll try it again. I don't recall seeing a manual when I downloaded it before. I'll check for it the next time I install it.

Phone Alarm was the first piece of software I bought and I quickly skinned to the JinksClear theme and it's great. Very clean and compact.

Thanks for the user guide download. :)

Phonealarm

Hi,

This is the first thing I put on my pda's

Noticed this post and I must interject and comment. Phonealarm is a must on every pda. it allows you to control your phone with a lot of flexibility. You can even tie it in to you meeting and have it go to vibrate mode when you go into a meeting.

I think this is a must have piece of software.

Would anyone mind sending me the phone alarm program. I am new to the Palm world and looking for any good freeware software. Thanks in advance.

phoneAlarm is not freeware. But install the trial at www.pocketmax.net. I believe you'll find it's worth it!

Every time I soft reset Phone Alarm, the phone alarm skin lights up saying I have one new SMS message when in fact I have none. When I open and close threaded messaging the alert goes away. Anyone else have this problem?

I get that. I'm 99% sure it's related to the Voicemail system. Overseas, VM is triggered via SMS and Bruce recently added support for it.

Since I barely reset though, I don't consider it much.

is there any way to get the phone alarm for free

jrs 12-08-2007 12:06 AM

I have used PA for a long time. Great piece of software.

Is there any version that works with the WM5 3.5 ROMs?
I am stuck using ver 1.58 - its the only one i have found that works correctly on the cooked ROMs

Re: Question about phonealarm

ok i have a strange thing happening with phonealarm... i'm sorta new to the program, but i've tried all the profile settings and whatnot.. maybe someone can help me.

I have my phone set to vibrate for incoming texts... it works fine.
When i change my profile to flight status (Default values), it obviously turns the vibrate off... but when i go back to my regular profile, the vibrate is still marked as off and won't vibrate like it should. I even checked the settings for sounds and notifications for wm and sure enough the vibrate was unchecked when it was previously checked during the regular profile

If someone knows if i've missed a setting, please let me know cause otherwise flight satus would be completely usless to me... thanks in advance

could i have possibly found a bug?? i found out this turning off of notification sounds only happens if i dont have alarm repeats checked.. if i have alarm repeating on, it turns vibrate back mode after switching back from flight mode... weird. I'm wondering if i'm just missing a setting here or if that's how i have to have it...
If flight status has the power to change/cancel values in other profiles (when switched back to them) then this is a huge flaw tho...

oh.. well i bought it... the flight thing isnt a huge deal if it indeed doesnt work right... cause i don't use that very often, plus i could just use comm manager.

i've been playing with the settings all day and can't understand why changing to flight mode would change the vibrate alert settings for sms/voicemail in the home profile once i switch back.. the other alerts seem to work fine... it's just when i have vibrate selected. Very weird. If i want to use phonealarm flight profile, my only option is to have repeat alert turned on... not a huge fan of repeating alarms, but i guess an extra 20 seconds is alright. I'll keep looking though to see if there's another setting - still.. changing to a different profile should not affect another profile at all.. that would defeat the purpose of profile switching (thank god it's only for flight switching).
