We have put a "Using OctroTalk" Manual on our website. Hopefully that should help with people having issues with configuration. As always, this is a work in progress and feedback is welcome.

i, too, am bombarded by adding "icq.octro.net" "aim1.octro.net" "msn.octro.net" every time i log in from another client. i do not know why this happens but i can not get it to stop. hopefully i will find somewhere in that manual to get it to quit. my only hope is that other ppl who have me on their im list dont receive the same bombardments as well

Any news on whether or not SMS will be used to minimize battery impact?

sign up at www.gmail.com

You were correct regarding the need for a Gmail address. Thanks.

However once I logged in I was immediately prompted with a popup for each one of my MSN buddies stating they wanted to add me as a buddy. That was a little disturbing.

Also I noticed that regardless of what I set my status to (Away or Busy), I still showed as available to my buddies. The Octro UI displayed correctly, but my status wasn't actually set.

The need for a Gmail address may be fine for us testing the product, but I think it would be a turn off to users having to pay for the product, especially since it appears something funny is going on in the background with all your buddies being renamed to name@octro.gmail.com or whatever it is.

I don't know, I am really anxious for the perfect IM solution, and will keep testing, but I'm sticking with Agile for now & am hoping that someone combines the best of Agile (tabbed chats, # of messages waiting next to each buddy, push to talk) with what used to be the best of Verichat (SMS proxy, send/receive files). BOTS IMHO should not be the primary focus for these developers. Create the best of class all in one IM solution first, then add those useless gizmos.

One thing I appreciated is that Octro didn't display that I was mobile. Displaying as mobile can be a deterrent to your buddies if they think you're on a cellphone.

Also gotta have Yahoo.

Totally with you regarding the bots.

having trouble with Legacy accts.

Really love the program by the way- best IM app for my phone even if it doesn't fully work yet! :D

For me (on the MotoQ) the google talk acct. works fine. i can chat great, but i was gonna try and VOIP the one Google buddy i have and the 'Menu -> Call' feature was greyed out. It let me click anyway but did nothing to speak of. I was wondering if there is something to be done on my buddy's end (i.e. does their status need to display available?, are there any prefs to be set on the google end of things?).

Also i have entered my info for 2 legacy accts: AIM and MSN (added in that order) It seems to accept my data but when i return to buddy list there is no indication that new accts have been added (as the pdf manual shows). when i go back into the prefs the info i entered is still there (i.e. legacy info is retained but not enabled, it seems.).

Also, it might be useful to know that i downloaded the signed 1.0 version first and set it up with gmail- then the folowing day i downloaded the unsigned update and tried to use legacy accts.

awesome work regardless!!

i will check back often i hope this post was of some help to the develpopers.

anxiously awaiting next release!

Are you 100% sure they are signed on to Google Talk (the standalone program) and not the Google Chat found in Gmail (web access) or any type of Mac software (which does not support VOIP)?

B/c VOIP only works with the former and if they are signed on to Google chat you will get a grey area.

We have changed how it works on the server. The display name will not be updated to that of Google Talk.

And I would imagine if people use their real names for gtalk they wouldn't want their msn display name to become their real name. Thanks again for the hard work! :)
