how to keep Exchange server sync secure?
I use over-the-air wireless sync (Activesync) to get email from an Exchange server. If the phone is ever lost or stolen, is there an easy way to disable this remotely? I don't want to have to enter my password every time I check email (dozens per day), but if something happens, I don't want anyone to be able to mess with my Exchange account info through this phone. Any good solutions to disable this remotely?

Re: how to keep Exchange server sync secure?
Just a quick thing, if your phone is missing/lost/stolen, log into your exchange server ASAP and change your password, no new messages will come in and it will just spit up errors on sync. About the only thing the crook can get from your phone is past email/contacts and your user name but, nothing that would allow them to log on to your server (unless you have notes with passwords or something)
I know it's a pain but, your best option is to have a password set if you want it to be secure. Most admins (I have done this before) have a password requrement on a phone, after 30-60 seconds, the phone will lock. |

If so, there is a function in the Push Email that can do a remote wipe....it will even wipe the sd card as well. This all from the Exchange server side though, not the client side. You can use Microsoft My Phone to get the same functions. Requires a Live account (aka: hotmail) then install myphone on the device, sync it and you are off. The 1 catch to all of these is that the cellular radio has to be ON for these to function....raido off (airplane mode) and nothing will happen. It will que up (so to speak) if the device is in airplane mode when the 'KILL' signal is sent. Once the device is communicating with the internet again, it will do the remote wipe. MyPhone if setup to do automatic backup's will track the position of the phone during the last backup (I set mine for every 6hrs and to run in the background). Not sure if this helps or not but it is another option. |
