Extreme Text 1.01 Threaded SMS

I searched for any discussion on the above app and I didn't see anything specific to this. I just download the free trial app and I love it so far. When I downloaded the app it converted all of my existing text (running stock text) to conversation text, I didn't lose them. It is a lot better then the threaded SMS because the text box moves up above the keyboard and you can see what you type. Sorry if I missed this post but I figured I would let everyone know. The cheapest I have found it is $12.95 at http://www.download.com/Extreme-Text...-10763537.html. If anyone knows where it is cheaper let us know. If anyone is running this app and knows of any bugs please let me know.

Note* If you download the app to your computer run it from there and active sync will apply it to your phone.

Edit: Smartphone edition is out and works on all WM smartphones.
PPC Edition is also NOW out!

Yes, I am trying to figure out how to MAP it to my Today screen where my text button is.

Anyone know how to MAP it.

utexascg 11-26-2007 11:10 PM

registry edit: today>keys

key112 = calendar
key113 = contacts

change one of them to the prog.

winmobilelawyer 11-26-2007 11:16 PM

Wow this program works really well! The only downside is that it is in fact optimized for Windows Smartphone which means touch screen stuff is limited to selecting. So you have to use the enter button more than usually (the d-pad center button).

And my other pet peeve... if you are in a conversation window, in order to get back to the text list, you have to click menu and then main contacts, why is there no back button, duh.

Maybe some of us should contact the developer and request they optimize a version for touch screens! I would so pay for this app if it supports touch screen!

chadsock 11-26-2007 11:18 PM

I went to Birdsoft.com and it states on the left hand side where you download it that Compatibility is Windows Mobile Standard Windows Mobile 5 + 6.

utexaxcg, I am using the HTC plugin that came on the phone and want to change the text key that is between the email and missed call button.

MannyPR 11-26-2007 11:29 PM

I tried it and is promising but is not there yet. Works ok with the Touch but some touch screen features don't work as it is expected for a smartphone software.

I see what you are saying, this app has a lot of potential and I can use it as it is but it would be great to make it more compatible to our system. It is not worth the price but I would be willing to pay for it with proper changes.

It is a nice program. First threaded SMS app for the Moto Q that works well. Plus...
  • No .NET CF 2
  • Small footprint
  • Works well (integrates with the Email inbox on the Q)
  • Not expensive
People should write to Birdsoft and have them make some simple changes to the GUI for PPC devices. Besides the unsupported Palm sms app, this is the 1st decent commercial software I've seen for this purpose.

winmobilelawyer 11-27-2007 12:21 AM

I just shot an email over to them, everyone else should too! I imagine it cant be THAT hard to make some changes to support touchscreens. VERY promising application here people!

ScandaLex 11-27-2007 12:34 AM

I tried to use it on my Touch; the program kept crashing and took a long time to load whenever I wanted to send a text. Eventually I just uninstalled it.

Cab. The only time I use a desktop installer is if no cab in available. I downloaded this as a cab to begin with.

winmobilelawyer 11-27-2007 12:47 AM

I used the desktop installer, and i believe the OP did too. Why dont you try out the desktop installer

Mikeschevelle 11-27-2007 01:12 AM

I know the developer. Very nice guy. you can find him at www.everythingq.com he is a big moto Q guy

jeffH70 11-27-2007 03:17 AM

The developer left comment in the Forum there on Nov. 21 that there will be an initial release for WM Pro (touch screen) version in a few weeks...

Jeff

When you say desktop installer, are you referring to installing the cab via ActiveSync or are you saying that this program comes as an .exe to be clicked on from desktop?

kkthx

I find it funny that your post comes off like you searched high and low for the benefit of us ("cheapest you could find"), when in fact, you didnt have to go out of your way to look for it since you're already a member of the site you linked this from.

Nowhere did I see mention in this thread an issue of the forementioned app costing too much, therefore resulting in us getting it for free.

Besides, dont you know the creed-

IF YOU LIKE IT, BUY IT!

Yea, if you goto the site there are two download uptions. One is an .exe file. Plug your phone in and run the exe, it will do some stuff on the desktop and then tell you to look at your device to continue.

ecker 11-27-2007 01:21 PM

another example of PPC flaming...

winmobilelawyer 11-27-2007 04:30 PM

anyways, back to the actual topic. Scandalex, did you get a chance to try the desktop installer?

and has anyone heard back from the developer?

If you have a problem with me come into the irc channel and talk to me about it.
Ive tried the if you like it buy it with Phonealarm and what a waste of money that was so dont preach that BS to me.

BOTTOM LINE, DO NOT FLAME PEOPLE!!!!

As previously mentioned, posting links to Warez sites is against forum rules.

1st and only warning. Thanks.

Now please lets continue with the original topic.

Actually no, I didnt get a chance to do it; eyes got heavy so I went to bed.

Quick question- do I need to remove (P)Threaded_SMS for this app to work? I didnt think about that before.

Blaqdymun 11-27-2007 08:10 PM

I Am ROTF... Kicking and screaming, I don't like the program for two reasons:

1. Does not integrate with originally text program.
2. Not "Touch Screen" friendly.

Still, ROTF!!!

no its not flaming at all, simply the truth. You stated this is the cheapest i could find it like you actually searched for the cheapest legit price, and then posted a link to a cracked warez. Thats just not right, and you know the forum rules obviously and not a total newbie here. How would you feel if you worked month(s) on a piece of software you were selling for say $10 and i jsut came alone and warez linked to your software for free leaving you with no business to make money since everyone would be getting it free? sucks wouldnt it?

Other factor is a seriously doubt the developer will keep supporting it (the PPC version too) if people are out there pirating his/her software. Not worth their time if they arent making the money they want to for their time. The only person mad here should be the developer, not you. Thats like blaming the cop for giving you a ticket when you knowingly went 80mph in a 70mph zone by choice, take responsibility/the lecture for the mistake and move on. Only person to be pissed at is yourself.

moving on....i really like this app, the keypad still hides the text input box so hopefully the develper will put out a PPC version soon. its a really great app and very small memory footprint

I feel you. During the time I initially installed it, I noticed that both apps didnt work hand in hand.

riironman 11-28-2007 07:39 PM

ok now i have issues...i unistalled it and now when i go to contacts/text/ i get a error that extreme cant open it....i just deleted it. I used memmaid to clean out the dead ends and deleted the rest of the folders out of the registry. how do i fix it? i installed shogun's palm threader and it still wont go to the shoguns threader through contacts. is there a registry setting to fix? and how?

you need to re install it and go into the options and turn off a setting that makes extreme text the primary texting app or something like that. then uninstall it

Do you mind saying how you made it the default SMS app?

Awesome, I am loving this app. It it fast and plays well with keyboards! Except it seems to start htc keyboard in abc mode instead of xt9.

CANNOT wait for the dev to roll out the touchscreen friendly version, I am going to hold out on purchasing until that happens.

wickedklown 11-29-2007 11:23 AM

I like it. I can see what I'm typing.

psywzrd 11-29-2007 12:10 PM

This sounds very promising if the developer can make it work with the Touch so that it works in conjunction with the HTC Home Plugin. Basically as long as the SMS alerts on the home plugin still work and assuming you can tap on the SMS icon in the plugin to go directly to this app, I'll be all over this. I like that you can use PCM keyboard with it too since that's my preferred input method (it seems to be a tad more repsonsive and accurate than spb for some reason).

winmobilelawyer 11-29-2007 02:33 PM

well all the sms registry keys still work, its just a matter of changing any links from regular sms inbox to the extreme text program.

Like for me i have an rlToday skin that calls the sms unread count and it used to link to tmail.exe no i changed the link to the extreme text program.

Someone mentioned this already, but could you let us know the full path for this in the registry? I did a search and couldn't find it.

Thanks.

wickedklown 11-29-2007 02:55 PM

I sent a text on xtreme and got the reply on the CodyPPCThreaded App. Is there a way to disable the Threaded app and have everything sent to Xtreme? or do i have to uninstall the Threaded app? Also where exactly do i go in my registry to change my SMS softkey to link to Xtreme app? Thx

*EDIT* Well this answers one of my questions, from the Titan Sticky thread

23-Changing SoftKeys
Create the following keys and Strings in the registry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\11 2
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\11 3
112 is the left key and 113 is the right.
Set Default to what you want the key to read (ie. SMS)
Now for each key create a new string named Open and set the target path.

The problem i found with extreme, is if the program is in the background or closed, i dont know i have a new SMS until i open the extreme program and see it. It seems that theres no notification set up for new SMS in the program and it doesnt open itself upon receiving a new text.

This is not a good thing at all as youll never know you have a new text message there until you physically check.

The problem is programs like HTC home and SPB phonesuite (which i use) dont have configurable icons. There has to be some way that the program can just open itself or come to the foreground to let you know you have a text.

the other IMSMs program does both of those functions but the program is way buggy

Maybe I never set extreme text as the default messaging app? Because I still get the text notifications from Windows Mobile. If i click reply on the notification it takes me to standard messaging tho, but if i want to use extreme text, I just dismiss the notification and go into extreme text. I guess what we really want is for the notification to still pop up and then when we hit reply, for Extreme text to pop up into that conversation.

Someone who knows the developer should have him register over here and check this thread. Honestly, he'll get himself a pretty penny if he properly develops this app for PPC's.

winmobilelawyer 11-29-2007 06:06 PM

How are you setting it to the default message handler? I tried to look through the settings on the device but didnt find anything.... is it a setting in extreme text itself?

Were still discussing the notification issues which still exist in the alpha and the touch screen needs to be more implimented but its gonna be good!

and please dont beg or message for the alpha i cant give it out without the developer's permission. feel free to google birdsoft's website and email them and ask.

Keep it up. Hope that it works well when finally released. The Palm SMS hack integrates perfectly but is buggy and loses texts sometimes. If another program could integrate as well and be designed specifically for WM6 (should be more reliable), that would be great.
