Updated Bing Application - Now with Turn-by-turn Navigation

The Windows Mobile Bing app has been updated with a new layout and now turn-by-turn navigation is also included. Haven't had a chance to try it out yet, but looks like it could be a great update. Read more and download here

Downloaded the latest directly from MS and installed on my Diamond/CDMA and it seems to be working fine. I've attached it for convenience.

Finally voice nav! Works great on my TP2 and for everyone that reads the info on it, you dont have to have sprint, tmobile or att. Working just fine on USCC! Thanks imnuts!

Re: Updated Bing Application - Now with Turn-by-turn Navigation

Bing has become my favorite navigation app.

(Which is sorta of a shame as I would really like it to be Waze but that has been to buggy for me......ah well maybe someday)

Re: Updated Bing Application - Now with Turn-by-turn Navigation

I went to a wedding this past weekend and had to use Bing to find the place we were going to. The address couldn't be found in iGo, with Google Maps, or any other GPS software (or stand alone GPS device) that I know of. Only Bing was able to find the address, and it got us there right as it started.

I drive for my job, and I gotta say, Bing consistently gives me better (faster and more efficent) routes comparered to google and tomtom. I usually know where im going so I was just testing each gps app :) Love the new Bing!

Does anyone know of a trick to load this into the "older" low res phones? I've tried loading it on an Apache and I get the "Sorry, your resolution is not support. Please load an older version of Bing at m.bing.com" message. Like voice nav has anything to do with screen res.

Works like the proverbial charm in my TP1/stock 6.1 rom.
Great find. Thanks guys!

I believe the reason why this won't work on some older devices is because the resolution of the downloaded maps can't be displayed on lower res older screens. I may be wrong though. :dontknow:

I guess that's their excuse but it's kinda lame. I mean. My apache by default takes pictures at resolutions higher than my phone screen resolution yet I'm able to see those just fine with and without scaling.

I think they're just trying to get cheapskates like me to move up to newer tech. [rant on] I'd love to, if they put cut and paste into win phone 7 and not nuder office functionality. I use my current apache with 6.1 to create content, keep track of my car mileage in pocket excel, take meeting notes in pocket word, and heck even put pdf maps or manuals on my phone just so I can get where I'm going or do things that would otherwise require me to lug around a laptop. I wish Sprint would put win mo 6.5.3 on the EVO, but I guess that would cut deep into future win phone 7 units. I mean the OS has potential, but I currently see that I have a lot to lose from even what a TP2 would provide. [rant off]

I guess I'm getting a TP2 and waiting for win phone 7.4 before upgrading the TP2. Heck I've had the apache this long.

Can you assign a name to a "Favorite" address without adding a pin first? The pin thing is an annoying extra step that introduces a lot of human error into the equation - I'd much rather type in an address and assign a name!

I dont see the option for Birds eye view. I use that often on the old version. Did they leave it out or am I missing something?

Looks like it is gone! :(

@All Here is a BING version I modified that should work just fine on most older devices.
It will not check for updates however... But that's what PPCGeeks is for! :evil4:

Let me know!

Update:
New Version is HERE!

Re: Updated Bing Application - Now with Turn-by-turn Navigation

Tried out Bing a little bit yesterday and thought it was pretty nice, but no replacement for Waze. Something about the color scheme and overall look of Bing makes it harder to visually process in quick glances, which is important in a GPS. The fixed "north" orientation of the map doesn't help either, and it's worse when the upcoming direction covers the entire screen. Basically I feel like I need to devote too much thought to Bing while I'm using it, so it distracts me while I drive. Back to Waze I go!

So does anyone else have an issue with the new bing turn by turn locking up constantly on their tp2? I am running stock sprint 6.5.

I like the new Bing but I miss the lookup for Gas prices. But I'm sure there must be an app just for that purpose.

Couldn't agree with you more. Turn by Turn Voice Navigation Bing is the sh't, but I miss my gas prices, too.

Somebody posted a cab so you could have the new bing (navigation) and old bing (gas prices) installed at the same time.

Could some one repost this cab, I would love to have Live search, and bing on my device, the new bing is great for navigation, but I have noticed that if I do a search for, say walmart it shows no results found, the nearest walmart is like 20 miles from here, the old live search, and bing on my Touch would find walmarts from Provo (Ut.) to Salt lake and every one inbetween, I miss that, and I just used walmart as an example!!
If I zoom out to find something in the next town over, it will find it, but wont navigate to it, don't know what that is about either.
Anyway if we could get both programs loaded on the same device I would love that.
Thanks
Terry

I have the OLD Bing still installed on my sd card. The NEW Bing is installed on the Device Main memory. Added shortcut for the old bing using Resco!

Ok so did you just remove the card before installing the cab on the device? What would I look for to make the short cut?
Thanks

Re: Updated Bing Application - Now with Turn-by-turn Navigation

Ok I have the new Bing, but with the hack from this site so I can use it on my Intrepid, don't know if that makes a difference or not, I tried to install Live search, not the old bing on my intrepid thinking that when it told me it would uninstall the current program (Bing) I would just tell it no and see if it would go ahead with the install, well it didn't even try to uninstall the new bing, it just installed live search and I have both, just thought this might help others.

Here is the .cab for the old "classic" Bing that will not overwrite the new Bing

Re: Updated Bing Application - Now with Turn-by-turn Navigation

If I use the Bing classic on my Intrepid it blocks the mic, I have no idea what the problem is, the new bing does not mess with it, and an old Live search does not either, I wish I could find out why the classic Bing does that, I am just glad I am able to have the old Live search, and the new bing on the same device, and both loaded on the card.
Isn't live search, and Bing classic the same program, just renamed?

So how are we able to install the old bing and the new bing simulataneously?

The new bing app exits randomly on me, but its still better than the Google App because its really good at avoiding tolls.

I have the Old Bing installed on my storage card. Flashed a new ROM (maxsense bignadad) that comes with the New Bing. I just used Resco Explorer and went to my sd card/program files/bing and sent the "old bing" shortcut to STart Menu!

Or install New bing to main memory and old bing to sd card. Works either way for me. I still like the old bing for Birds Eye view.

I actualy have Live Search, not the old Bing, but I think they are the same program, I never could tell what the update was supposed to be, has gas prices, search, voice search, every thing, anyway I have Live search, and Bing both installed on the storage card, Live search never said anything about uninstalling Bing, or visa versa, don't know how old Bing handles that, never tried, Old bing fore whatever reason shuts off the mic on my PDA so I uninstalled it, found out that LIve search would not interfer with the mic, and neither will the new bing, I have a Samsung Intrepid, running factory WM6.5
