Google Maps updated 4.1.1 with voice search!

I have now, based on multiple reports that voice search actually does work in WM. It actually does.

At the time I posted, though, I had neither downloaded nor tried it. I like to know what an "upgrade" is supposed to do before I install it. In this case, Google specifies that voice search is not in the WM version, so I wondered why everyone assumed it was.

An example of a good reason to be wary of "upgrades" is the new Bing version, which is essentially useless compared to older versions.

In case anyone is wondering, Google also says turn-by-turn directions and voice directions are not in the most recent WM version. In those cases, they are correct.

Meh - until it has voice guided Turn-by-Turn I'll be sticking with other products.

Thankyou for posting this, the voice enabled search is awesome.

I use GarminXT for route guidance etc, but this will be great for quick searches especially while driving.

How do you get the voice enabled search to work???

On my TP2 I overwrote the files on a "cooked in" Google Maps 4.0 and I don't get any way to select voice search. There is a little depiction of a telephone handset and it says to tap that for voice search but nothing works.

Any help would be appreciated.

Are you tapping the actual hard phone button on your phone, not the little icon on the screen? This doesn't work by tapping the icon.

Yeah, it's actually pretty unintuitive - I really did not expect that Google Maps would take over my hard phone button and kept trying the little icon. Voice Command does still work with a long press, and I assume anything else mapped to a long press of that button would still work as expected.

As far as I can tell, there's no workaround to the hijack of the phone button as long as you're in Google Maps. Since I never manually dial if I can avoid it, this isn't really a problem for me.
