HOWEVER...I can't get 'satellite view' to work, is it because I reside in Calgary, Canada? With the previous Google Map versions, I was able to view it with ver 1.2, 1.3, 1.3.1, but not this currious gmaps.jad version.

Any insight here is appreciated.

Not your fault.

This version of IBM Java does NOT do jpgs, hence no satellite view, but overall it works better for Java apps.

Sorry!

ah that's reassuring...ah well, the 'direction' map works great and I'm content with it. It's also fast too! w00t!

Does anyone know how to make shortcuts for different Gmail accounts? Right now I have to type in the login/pwd for each account I want to check.

I tried copying everything into different folders (ie Gmail1, Gmail2, Gmail3), running emulator.exe within each, and creating shortcuts to the emulator.exe files within each folder. I also modified the shortcuts with the command line parameters (ie run=1, run=2, run=3) but to no avail.

If I choose to never log out of Gmail, regardless of the shortcut I use (Gmail1 to Gmail3) it just accesses that same account.

Thanks for any and all responses.

Yes it should work.

I've loaded the bin and lib folders on my SD card, and the gmail file in the root directory of my Treo. When I try to run emulator.exe, I get an error that says I either have a security certificate issue or one of the file's components could not be found and the file needs to be reloaded. I have reloaded the bin and lib folders on both the SD card and tried them on the device root directory, but got the same error. Any help is appreciated...

I am getting odd behavior when trying to select a new recipient for an email.

Running Gmail on my Treo 700w, when I try to add recipients to an email, I am presented with a Search box and a scrollable list of all my contacts. When I type in that search box, it only enters capital letters and only finds email addresses that start with the corresponding capital letter. Pressing shift key doesn't help, rather it just generates 2 capital Es with accents above them when the shift key is pressed.

I could manually scroll the contacts list and select them without using the Search but the list is very long it takes a while.

Is anyone else experiencing this behavior?

Anyone know if there's a version that doesn't use the courier new font? Earlier versions of the IBM java software had a better font. Also, you can't use the center button on the 5-way to launch software, you must use menu->launch. At least this is how it is on my 700w.

Okay no matter what I do for the command line deal for the shortcut path it does not launch gmail straight up, it brings me to the list then I have to click launch.

I have tried
"/my docs/bin/emulator.exe" -xjam:run=1
/my docs/bin/"emulator.exe" -xjam:run=1

And all other types of combinations.

Any help?

(3) Go to the bin folder and launch Emulator.exe

(4) Click Install

(5) Type in gmail.jad and select / from the drop down list

emulator.exe does nothing

nowhere does it say: install

type where????

I just did a cold reboot and it suddenly started working. Try that.

It seems that most people are getting it to work, but for those having problems, I've been using Tao's Intent MIDlet Manager to run GMail mobile (and certain other java apps) without problems.

Might want to give it a shot for anyone that is having problems.

If 2.5 megs is too much to spare, I know for sure the older version (v10) works fine with gmail mobile as well.

PAKMAN786 04-14-2007 01:42 AM

Can some one post a nice step by step tutorial for the 700wx showing shortcuts for Gmail Email. I hate going through the emulator every time...

Thanks!

Unforunately I don't think there's a way to create a shortcut that will launch GMail's Java applet automatically.

Crash83 04-15-2007 11:50 PM

See its working amazing for me, my only problem is EVERYTIME i want to log in I have to enter username/password. I have clicked the remember my login option but it doesnt seem to want to. and i have no clue on how to correct that and it gets quite old putting it in EVERY time.lol.

bsadler 05-14-2007 04:24 PM

How can you fix the security issue if you are using the "Intent Java Midlet Manager?" Its the java MM that's included in the Kirvin's Clean and Simple. I'm having the darndest time trying to fix it so it doesn't make me confirm its a midlet I want to use each time. Is there anyway I can apply this security file to this midlet manager?

Well actually it does. If you make the shortcut like the instructions in the 1st post says, then go to the Windows\start menu\programs directory, you go to the shortcut, hold the the stylus or whatever to bring up the menu and go to properties. Then go to the shortcut tab (the shortcut path is already there), then add the comment after the target. Mine looks like this:

"\Storage Card\bin\emulator.exe" "-Xjam:run=1" (spaces included)

That should work, with whatever directory the emulator.exe file is located, just put the space after the path, then add: "-Xjam:run=1" (using 1 assuming it's the 1st app in the midlet program)

Zak8022 05-25-2007 10:53 AM

I hadn't tried any other methods to get Gmail to work directly on the phone... but this method worked great for me! I was a little confused about the shortcut business... but what Steb0ne wrote is exactly right.
