Re: Where Are Email Account Settings Stored?
My best guess is that they are stored in the cemail.vol file, in the root dir. To confirm this, I have noticed that the size of the file changes when I do things with my email accounts. For instance, I usually have three email accounts set up. With an average of 10 emails in each inbox at any given time. The cemail.vol file is around 250-350 kb in size. Now if I delete all of my email accounts and soft reset, the cemail.vol drops to about 70 kb in size. Add the accounts back, download my emails, voila, 300 kb in size again.
The problem is that no file browser that I've tried will let me rename or do anything with the cemail.vol file, the way that I can with PIM.vol. This is where apps like SPB Backup come in. This, or using an app like Sashimi with the settings in an xml file, seem to be the only ways to backup/restore email account settings. |

Re: Where Are Email Account Settings Stored?
Update:
Well, no big surprise, Verizon Tech Support was wrong - guess that's the first time, huh!! The refurb they sent was WM6.1, same as my current TP2. I've activated the new one, restored with SPB Backup, setup a new ActiveSync Partnership which worked successfully, and am good to go there. Seems to be working fine. So then, I have the one that I'll be sending back, and I thought, what better opportunity to play around with this stuff at no risk!! So I went ahead and updated the ROM to WM6.5, and it installed without incident. Booted into the new OS, and there are some cosmetic changes, seems to work ok, no big change that I can see. I then did a Restore of my most recent SPB Backup, and excluded System Files from it, and this also went flawlessly. All my contact information is there, but obviously no links to any of my previously installed programs (most of which were to the card, but possibly some system utilities to the device). I'd have to recreate those (guess I could copy/paste from the SPB Backup file) if I wanted to get everything fully restored. (I did just notice - the backup created Duplicates of the contacts that Verizon pre-installs on the phone - that messed up ActiveSync the last time I had to do a hard reset and Restore, and it took me a whole day to figure out that these Duplicates were the source of breaking the ActiveSync partnership!) I'll play around with WM6.5 for a while more before resetting and sending it back, maybe try putting WM6.1 back on it just to make sure it works. But whether or not I'll move my main device up to WM6.5 isn't clear; not sure it's worth the time and hassle, but good to know it's fairly easily do-able. Thanks to all for the help here. |
