I wish it was more of a backup / restore effort, and less of a social conduit, since I'm not a 12 year old girl :)

We all do. That's why it's not of much use currently.

I'm sorry, I wish I could explain it better, but the very quote you used defeats your point!!

End of this issue, anybody else have anything they want to discuss about DashWire? :-)

Sorry, but you seem to be struggling with this one. Dashwire cannot sync texts, call logs, etc. back to your phone. You might try reading their post a little more carefully.

Its not that they can not its that they will not! That is not what the program is to used for. If you dont like it, the uninstall, delete your account and unsubscribe from this thread. I have sat by idly, but seriously man/woman, no one wants to see you in this thread all you do is stir up negativity, and make crazy claims that we all know are not fact! :angry7:

No one from Dashwire claimed it was specifically a backup/ restore application.....there are a ton of apps that do that.....I personally use it for adding my pics and videos of my daughter and share them with my family...and I am not a 12 year old girl:mrgreen:.....if you want a backup/ restore app then you are in the wrong thread (there are many of them in the forum)....BTW if you do not like it, my suggestion is do not use it.....but it fits my needs personally....

Re: Dashwire 2.0 (Updated 6/24/08)

ok, so all this fuss got me a litte curious, and I have been running a manual sync every few days for a couple weeks, as I'm getting ready to flash my primary phone again.
so I thought I'd install & sync on my 2nd phone, (both 6.1) and my experiences was as dashwire states.
I'm not sure why it's so important to restore (key word=restore) txt's and call logs to the phone..
call logs are documented on 1-your bill 2-carrier website 3-dashwire website
txt's are supposedly "undocumented" by your carrier, but you can view them on dashwire's site. any important info you get in a txt should probly be noted somewhere else any way... ie; a link=favorites, phone#/address=contact, password=password manager.

I do have a couple comments since I actually played with the service more..
on the site;
1. can we get an option to rotate the picture, but only for the web.. I have many landscape pictures that show sideways on the web, but are how I want them for my phone.
(when viewing photo's in the ppc application you can "set as Wallpaper" to "restore" back to the phone....)

2. the Tag doesn't auto-fill if the first letter's case doesn't match. (maybe it's supposed to be this way, but I'm noob @ soc network stuff)

on the phone;
3. can we get the option to view photo's with the application, without setting the sync to auto?

4. when viewing photo's the finger-swipe is very sensitive and you have to slide your finger in a perfect strait line.. some margin of curve would be nice.

EDIT; another thought I had for the sync options, what I think would be perfect to have following options somehow; auto, manual, scheduled, and on Status Change.
this way, I could have a scheduled sync, but also open dashwire to update my "status" and have it sync @ that time too. (currently cannot change status without being in auto-sync)

Shaggy!!!! Great to see ya!!! I am glad your giving this a shot!!! As you mentioned, DashWire works great for the things your using it for!!! Let me see if I can address your points of interest here:

1- Not that I know of, once you rotate it on DashBoard it syncs almost imediatly to your PPC rotated. Maybe (I know it is redundant) keep a copy of the ones you don't want rotated in a separate folder that doesn't sync for viewing that way! I will mention it in my next email to the DashWire guys!!

2- Sorry, not too up on the Tag feature!!

3- Last I heard, they were working on this one, I thought they got it, but I haven't tried it, I will ask about it as well (of course they watch here pretty well also, so they most likely know already)!!

4- I am in full agreement here, and I think it is another thing they are working on, I mentioned it a while back, along with the possibility of enabling scrolling on the sync screen (the thumb-nails), possibly even a choice of views (full-page thumb-nails) to help out chosing pics to view!!

I do know they are working on the scheduled sync option, they thought that was a great idea as well, but they have a couple other bugs to work out before that one, but soon I think!!!

My main (only actually) issue with DashWire at this time is battery consumption, I run through 5-7% per hour---way too much!!!! They are working on that one as well!!!

Think it's very safe to say that there are plenty of solutions out there that offer considerably more powerful backup/restore functionality than Dashwire. That said, Dashwire does offer a lot of compelling functionality for free, and will continue rolling out support for additional data sets (i.e. calendar, tasks, files, etc.) and functionality over the coming weeks.

We're not positioning ourselves as a backup solution, but rather as a connected service that enables you to effortlessly connect your phone, your computer, and the web services and social networks you interact with. In the process, we're happy to help with things like back-up and restore, and will continue enhancing our functionality.

Dashwire 2.0 represented our first major step towards bringing the content on the web back down to your phone. Prior to that we restored contacts, web favorites, and speed dials. Going forward, we'll be bringing even more functionality & content back down to the phone.

I would hate for you to think that our application was made by/for 12 year-old girls. "Target Market Research" would head towards Creepersville pretty fast...lol...

Hope this helps.

Ok and in response to some of your feature requests:

Contact migration is definitely something we plan on doing... Gmail, Outlook, etc. is all on the table.

You can rotate the image on the dashboard (as I'm sure you know), but on the shared page they don't seem to change. That's probably an easy fix

With Tagging I think you might just have to get used to starting with the proper case

Viewing pictures without automatic sync on the mobile client is going to be difficult because of the technology that we use and because Dashwire would have to store the pictures on the phone and some users might not be comfortable with that. That said we're working on possible fixes...

Functionality for scrolling and on the "thumbnails" is a little tight at the moment. For the next build we are going to try to address this

Finally, some sort of scheduled sync is in the plans.

Our engineers are pretty focused at the moment on our Symbian Client release and so some of these feature implementations are on hold. But we appreciate all of the suggestions and we'll continue to push out the new stuff you guys want to see.
