I am having horrible battery life with my phone. After reading these posts, I downloaded the battery monitoring software and noticed that my phone would spike towards 100 several times in 2 minutes. I checked magic button which showed no programs running. I checked memory/ running programs and noticed that active sync, comm manager and music ID were running. Why do these programs not show up with magic button. I stopped them all, and tried to monitor the battery again which seemed to improve in not spiking, it hovered in the 40's. Anyway, comm manager and active sync were running after I performed a sync/charging of the phone. Why are these programs not stopping once the program is closed, isn't this what magic button is suppose to inform me. Anyway, does anyone else have problems with these programs continually running in the background undetected by magic button. This maybe the cause of my pitiful battery charge.

@Silent Assasin,

Comm Manager is just stupid and doesn't exit except via "STOP" on the Memory tab... but at the same time, it doesn't exactly use a lot of memory either (at least the default one doesn't), because it's just a UI to turn on/off things like ActiveSync/Data Connection/Phone, etc.

As for ActiveSync, if you have it setup to push/pull email from your Exchange-based email account, then it is running because you told it to sync email. If you are syncing very large mailboxes very frequently, then you could be using a lot of RAM to do it. If you're a little more sensible and have it syncing only a portion every hour or so, then it's probably not taking up as much as you might think.

I just applied this to my XV6700 with Helmi's WM6 kitchen. I had all of the options except this:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\L2TP1\Parms]

There was nothing in the Parms folder

Should i add one and change it or does it matter?

I do not use the push e-mail client at all. I noticed on the previous active sync that once I undocked from the desktop, the active sync would automatically shutdown, now witht the latest install it stays on the desktop and I have to manually x out the program. Not using outlook, other than syncing contacts, so this should not be a problem. How do I control syncing a portion every hour? You believe that these programs do not use a lot of memory, but when I manually stopped them, the load on the battery was a lot better.

Well, battery life being longer does not equal memory being saved and vice versa.

Regardless, open ActiveSync on the phone or desktop and access "Schedule" under the menus. You can set the timing to manual or whatever your preference is.

When I open Active Sync on the phone and go to schedule it is greyed and I am unable to access this option.

I just tried this on my WM6 Touch. Not sure if it'll make a difference, but we'll see.

SA,
There's a tweak for this that I've never used because I sync with Exchange, so I can't tell you the details. IIRC, it involves setting up a dummy server connection in activesync - that un-grays the schedule options. Then disable the connection after you set up the schedule the way you want it.
