app development with visual studio question

Can you use Visual Studio Express and the downloaded WM 6 SDK to develop WM apps? I don't want to invest $300 for Visual Studio Standard when I just want to create a few apps for myself to fill in the gaps for software I can't find. What's missing in VS Express that prevents creating mobile apps?

i dont believe express version to be capable(wasn't for smartphone) but if you are a student(or know a student willingto do so) go to dreamspark, microsoft gives away product keys for visual studio 2008(and other software too) my wife is a psych major,
but still when she verified, they sent her a key for visual studio 2008, then you should be
have everything you need :) (she also downloaded server 2008, (blows vista out of the water as far as speed and capability))

Vista sucks anyways. :D

To O.P. look into PPL.
It's Pocket Programming Language.
It's pretty nifty.
