wifi without cellular service

Ok, I don't know nearly enough about the way these phones work to discuss this intelligently. So, this is what I want to do. Is there a way? I have a 6700. I do not have any cellular service since my work provides a phone and I don't have use for another carrier at this time. But, I do want to access the internet via various wifi sites in my area. Is there a way?
