PhatPhinger II WQVGA (240x400) - modified to fit WQVGA devices, such as the Samsung Omnia

http://www.venusware.net/images/phat.../screen024.png-http://www.venusware.net/images/phat.../screen025.png

Background
The WeatherPanel application, which is getting on in years, doesn't properly handle WQVGA devices - it gets confused and thinks they are VGA. This messes up the layouts and displays them jumbled and too large.

This redesigned PhatPhinger layout compensates for that by displaying everything at half it's normal size. So basically, WeatherPanel is still messed up. But, if you use this layout on your WQVGA device, it will work.
Notes:
  • This layout requires standard sized QVGA icons. Icons can be found HERE.
  • This theme doesn't fix WeatherPanel - the built-in themes will still not work on the Omnia.
  • Installation instructions can be found in the PhatPhinger II WQVGA Readme file (found inside the zip file).

Enjoy!

What devices are WQVGA devices? I have the Mogul (PPC6800 or Titian) Which version works for the Mogul?

Not this one. Your Mogul is QVGA (320x240). Check the download index for the WeatherPanel install, themes and icons...

Works great until you look at the regular forcast and radar when you pres on the middle. They are huge and unreadable.

I didn't convert the internal layouts, but I did try to make this version of PhatPhinger so that you wouldn't see them. You say you're pressing in the middle - maybe I need to adjust something for full coverage...

There's no need to use them, as the skin itself covers everything (except compare)...

First of all I was not complaining. That was not a negative post. This is a great app. Sorry for not hitting the thanks button. The only thing I was saying was that I was not able to get the radar to fit on the screen. Maybe I was missing something but that was all I was trying to say. Sorry if I offended anyone

I figured it out!!!

Hi there,

Do I need to have the older version of Weather Panel installed first or does this CAB alone do the trick?

Thanks for fixing this killer app!!!

No older version required - the WeatherPanel 2009 CAB is all you need (besides the themes and icons, of course)...

Help! I have a Samsung Omnia i910 and I installed Weatherpanel 2009 (trial), and then I installed your mods as instructed, but I get nothing working. I have the files (icons and themes) but no program runs to display the Weatherpanel screens. What could I have done wrong. I'm new to this also (modding). Thanks. ](*,)

I'm not familiar with the Omnia, but Weather Panel is a today plugin. Look for Today screen items and check/add Weather Panel.

Re: [THEME] PhatPhinger II WQVGA (240x400) (Omnia)

StoryR.
Thanks for getting Weather Panel to work on the Omnia. I just got my 910 2 day ago and the first thing I had to get working was Weather Panel. I got used to having it on my HTC.

Everything works for me, and I can use it as is, but there are somethings that don't work at all. When I open it up to full screen the up and down arrows do not do anything at all other than change color. Pressing the X closes the program but also opens up the clock program that is essentially in that space underneath. I can get around this by hiting the OK button to close and going back and forth to the minimized version in the today screen. So I look at the radar and go back. Look at the forcast and go back.

Mine is a new Verizon 910 phone and I am using the 7deg fonts. I have tried all of the various pixel heights. I loaded the Weather Panel software that came with the themes free of VGA rather than the full version. Perhaps I will try reloading the full version.

Thanks a lot for the skin. I will use it as is unless a new version out.

Jel

The up and down arrows are for changing cities - they won't work unless you configure more than one city in the settings.

WeatherPanel has always had this problem - it allows the screen press to activate buttons behind it.

This is normal behavior for PhatPhinger (as the up/down arrows are for changing cities). You could try PhatPhinger IV - it allows you to switch windows without closing them. But, it's built for VGA, so the windows won't fill the screen on the Omnia...

Thanks Storyr,

I meant that the Diamond Weather Theme has a wqvga version and not that the Touch Diamond is wqvga.

Apologies for the confusion.

Thanks again.

np... as i stated at the start of this thread (i think), it's not too hard to convert a theme to wqvga. post which theme you'd like to see converted, and maybe someone will do it :)

and everything is showen 2x bigger. It looks that WP "thinks" that he works on resolution 480x640. I have to edit all theme files and divide whole numbers by 2.
Also Hourly forrecast is not working. have this funcion fixed.
I have new machine Mio Eplora K70 with WM 6.1 and WQVGA.
On my old Mio P550 with WM5 is working wo any problems.

Thank you for the share Storyr...

On my device, Samsung Omnia, the display is still incorect... I tried installing and uninstalling it for several times, but still not working...

I appreciate your hard work in this, if im missing something, pls help me properly install it. (reading from other replies to this topic, it seems my problem is still the VGA issue, the program thinks that my device is VGA not WQVGA.

Your help is greatly appreciated. thanks in advance

Folks - please re-read the first post.
  • The attached version of WP 2009 does not fix the issues on the Omnia. It simply has it's VGA images removed (for convenience)
  • The default WP themes do not work on the Omnia
  • You must install the PhatPhinger II WQVGA theme and select it in the settings
  • You must install one or more QVGA icon sets and select one of them in the settings

You will then be happy...

The folder named PhatPhinger II WQVGA (which contains all of the files) should be inside the Themes folder.

From the readme.txt file:

Code:

    1.3  From Windows Exporer, open:
My Computer, Mobile Device, My Windows Mobile-Based Device,
        \Program Files\MarsWare\WeatherPanel\Themes

-> or, to install to your storage card, open:

My Computer, Mobile Device, My Windows Mobile-Based Device,
                    \Storage Card\WeatherPanel\Themes

1.4  Copy the PhatPhinger II WQVGA folder and it's contents
into the Themes folder on your device. Your folders should then look
        something like this:

        - Program Files
          - MarsWare
            - WeatherPanel
              - data
              + Icons
              - Themes
                - PhatPhinger II WQVGA

Mobile Shell 3.0 does not support Today plugins, so WeatherPanel (or any other Today plugin) cannot be displayed within it.

You can, however, use THIS custom WeatherPanel widget to show basic current conditions and open WeatherPanel's popup windows when activated...
