TP2 and Orb with Core Vs Win Media

I have Orb running at home and have used it with TCPMP in my Mogul for two years with no problems. TCPMP does not work on the TP2, so I upgraded to Core Player, but the Core player (which works fine for video files on the device) plays audio files that I orb, but crashes everytime I try to stream the TV feed.

Windows media player will play the TV feed, but the playback is so choppy as to be worthless. Even Sprint TV plays better than Orb on Windows Media
.

Has anyone had a problem with Core 1.3.6 build 7427 and Orb?

Re: TP2 and Orb with Core Vs Win Media

I received my TP2 yesterday (freakin love it) and have tried to use windows mobile player too. You're right in that the stream is choppy. On mine it says the playback is coming in at around 50kbs. I have a really good signal here and average about 700kbs on EVDO RevA, not to mention Wifi. It worked fine on the Touch Pro. It seems as if someone has somehow limited the streaming throughput using mobile player. Is that even possible?

My workaround for the moment is to change the stream settings in Orb to use one of the .3gp variants. This will cause the TP2 to use it's streaming media player and the playback is a bit better but not nearly as sharp as it should be. Also, Kinoma Player will stream video through Orb and the quality isn't too dodgy...but no TV

I would love to know if anyone else with a TP2 has Orb working with windows mobile player because the quality should be better.

Re: TP2 and Orb with Core Vs Win Media

On my Verizon TP2, when I try to play orb videos from my computer to my phone, it only plays the audio in CorePlayer and is very choppy with WMP. When using test.orb.com, the videos in both players are perfectly fine and smooth. So maybe its something on the server computer or the orb software.

Re: TP2 and Orb with Core Vs Win Media

I am having the same issue on my new Sprint TP2. I tried it on the Sprint network and Wifi at my home, and the video is very jerky and buffers every 5-10 seconds. Renders it useless. This worked flawlessly on my mogul. Anyone have any ideas on what the issue is?

Re: TP2 and Orb with Core Vs Win Media

Here's another update on this issue. I started up my old Touch Pro and turned on WiFi, logged onto ORB and started playing a video and the quality was fine. I really don't know what is wrong with the video using windows mobile player on the TP2, but something is not right. If anyone has had a good experience using ORB on the TP2 I would love to know how they have things setup and if there's anything that can be done. Do regular videos play ok using WMP? So many questions.... Still love the phone but I'm just a bit OCD when it comes to stuff that doesn't seem to work right.

Re: TP2 and Orb with Core Vs Win Media

I'm not sure if this is just a streaming video problem i don't use orb i have slingplayer and my streams are jerky now it just started though.. possibly will do a reinstall then hard reset if that doesn't fix the problem

Re: TP2 and Orb with Core Vs Win Media

In regrades to ORB and Core try this. I have done it and it work and as a side note orb seems to stream better too. Loged into ORVB on your phone goto settings>Streaming Formats>and select Winamp format (.pls). This will use winamp for your mobile but still use ASX for your desktop. The only problem is everyting you have to log in on your mobile you will have to change it to PLS if your cookies get deleted from your phone. As I stated this streams MUCH MUCH better and buffering is better too. Hope this helps

Re: TP2 and Orb with Core Vs Win Media

Hey guys. I'm about to take the plunge and buy Core player. Can you guys confirm that it works decent with Orb if you set Orb's output to .pls? And if so, are there any special settings for Core Player. Thanks for your help.
