Roaming Option Removal

Prior to the latest rom I could force my phone to roam on non-Sprint networks. This was particularly useful because:
- Sprint has poor coverage in areas where I often am
- I have unlimited roaming
Disregarding the implications of excessive roaming (contract cancellation, etc), how can I force my phone to roam now? The option was in the Dialer -> Options -> Services -> Roaming

Re: Roaming Option Removal

The software patch did NOT work. Same as above... I never got a roaming signal, it just kept searching and searching.

I found that the only way to force Roaming with the new 6.1 ROM is this way:

1. Dial ##778#
2. Edit.
3. Enter MSL# as password.
4. Bottom left click "View info"
5. Select "Modem Settings"
6. Then Hold on "Preferred Serving System" and select edit.
7. Select "Roaming Only"
8. follow on screen prompts.

Then you have to do a soft reset. It will load up on Roaming and have a roaming signal. You can go into "Settings" and change back to Sprint.... however, you can NOT change back to Roaming again. You have to go in the other way and do another soft reset.

Does anyone know of a fix so that you can switch back and forth from Sprint to Verizon (Roaming) via "Settings" without having to enter the MSL number and do a soft reset? It's kind of a pain and hassle.

This is the one I used...worked just fine. The file is marked SPCS 6800 VM.zip but Divedr included the Roaming Fix with it. http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/attachment...2&d=1216944817 Hope this helps...

Thanks! That patch did the trick. No soft reset required to switch back and forth to roaming now.

Re: Roaming Option Removal

i just did a similar thing like I did to my mogul when i had it...i used a registry editor and changed a couple of entries...
go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\InitProv\PhoneSett ing

then change ItemCount and Data: 3 (0X000003) from 2 to 3
then edit the entry that says ItemName3 Automatic-b to say ItemName3 Roaming...

after doing those it works and I'm able to pick up EVDO from Verizon now, because Sprint doesn't have EVDO in Savannah, but Verizon does....

btw...if there is a better way than this...than let me know...I just changed around what I had to do on the Mogul so that it would work on here...the info I got for the mogul was from this site in case someone wants to see http://forum.smartphoneexperts.com/s...d.php?t=166246

Re: Roaming Option Removal

I tried this on my touch, it allows me to select Roaming only, but I am still not getting EVDO in Yuma AZ. I know Verizon has it, and a friend has Alltel and her phone shows EVDO so am not sure whats going wrong here.
