Re: tethering with non-connected phone??
so you're saying you have 3 moguls on your account? or did you esn switch them around? if so, sometimes the provisioning stays on the phone for a while then data won't work anymore

Re: tethering with non-connected phone??
i have 3 moguls in front of me... 1 on my account, 1 with a bad esn not on my account, and 1 with a clean esn also not on any account... and the provisioning has been working with full internet for over 2 weeks now and counting... haha i got curious and thought it was tied to my account so i changed the mdn and msid on each device and its all still working??? did i create a frankenstein or is this repeatable???

Re: tethering with non-connected phone??
I thought it was just a fluke too, thats why i flashed my buddies phone... and his is still working also... can sprint tell that i have 3 phones kind of tied to my account with a lot of bandwidth being used on each of these devices??
Is it the rom thats allowing this or is it really just a fluke... Hypothetically if I were to suspend, cancel, or changed phones (to a diamond) do you guys think i can still tether and use the internet off of my frankenstein?? |

Re: tethering with non-connected phone??
I'm not sure how they can tell, but regardless I think I can duplicate this on any mogul... so we could have a mogul for strictly free tethering... and a mogul for normal everyday use and calling... that way theres no confusion or worries about sprint charging us for tethering... =D>
If I'm using this frankenstein on the internet and its not tied to my account in any way... is it traceable to an IP address or to sprint? |

Re: tethering with non-connected phone??
Okay, I feel the need to step in and play devils advocate here... What you have in your possession is a blacklisted phone that was reported lost to Asurion/Sprint. You are the customer whom has filed said claim and received a replacement phone to replace this missing property. While even I could advocate keeping the device around for testing purposes, its clear that the services are still being routed to the device. So lets play out a scenario...
Sprint deactivates the voice services from the line, leaving only a Mobile IP attached to the device therefore allowing internet to remain on. IP addresses are traceable to a great extent by the ISP in charge of the address. Your device also happens to be equipped with a GPS chip tied into the aGPS functionalities of the device. Put two and two together. While it may not seem plausible that they would do such a thing, they will eventually notice that there is bandwidth going where its not supposed to be going - even in minor amounts. Would you want to be the one streaming porn to your notebook when an investigator walks up asking you for the device in question? ![]() All I am saying is that you are carrying an easily locatable device and using services you arent paying for. Its really up to you whether its worth the risks associated or not. I just figured I would give it to you from the other side of the coin my friend. Good luck with it either way! ![]() Last edited by Krayziepop; 09-16-2008 at 11:09 AM. |
