No Hope For VZW and PPC's?

Question... If the Touch Pro that VZW is going to release is going to be a crap version of Sprint's, is there any hope in the near future on a WM6 PPC for VZW? :violent2:

I have heard that some folks will buy the Sprint's version full price then move it over to VZW, but isn't that going $400-500? Anyone that has insight/suggestions on what I should do. I currently have the Titan on VZW, but since projects are minimal due to faster stuff with more memory, I want to move to something good. Thanks.

How would you do that without cloning an ESN??

You just say you bought a device third party and it is Verizon after flashing a Verizon ROM, then just give them the ESN and activate it. :D

I think the only real hope for getting cool stuff on Verizon is when they make the switchover to LTE (4G) starting in 2010. With any luck Verizon will use SIM cards for LTE, which will make it possible to use different devices. Of course, given Verizon, they'll likely lock it all down... <sigh>

I don't believe that will work. If the ESN is not in verizon's data base, I don't think they will activate it.

Eh some people have had success with it. If you can get in touch with the right person they'll be able to get it sorted out for you.

Thanks for the replies... I suppose since VZW isn't releasing phones as fast as other providers, open is the way to go for flexibility but not cost to the consumer. Not to mention folks not renewing their contracts since the phones are not bought through VZW.

So if I were to get a Touch Pro, I need to talk to the 'right person' to activate the phone, which I am not sure how that will go. If someone is going the route of Touch Pro - Sprint, then going to VZW since VZW crippled their phone, can they let me/us know so we can get in on it? Many thanks!

we dont know that vzw crippled the phone yet... for vzw to get a crap version on the touch pro means that htc would have to downgrade the phone... so dont flip out just yet because there was a sprint picture showing that garbage... not saying it wont be crap... but we dont know yet... best way to find out is to email vzw

vzw clearly sucks for ppc's... not only does their support lag but their releases lag to the point where the device is obsolete by the time they get it released... they seriously SUCK when it comes to ppc's.

that open development thing is fine if you're rich and can afford a phone at retail price... these things aren't cheap tho...

sprint clearly is the leader when it comes to ppc support and getting devices released to their users but their service just sucks too bad. :(
