Yes !!! In 5067 it was originally an option, but after an upgrade on the kitchen files it became a requirement... in other words, you couldn't leave it out :D what flyers2114 said is 100% correct. and just a heads up, if its a stock application and its not listed in the kitchen, that generally means it's build it (no option to remove) for example - internet connection sharing !!! for the life of me, i cant recall why it wasn't option, but who cares i use internet connection sharing all the time !!!! Flash the night away !!!! :D

only each time select fewer OEMs to include, or even better start w/ none selected and work backwards (selecting more and more each time) - if its' not booting up due to the size of the rom, then when you create a clean (no selection) ROM it will boot, and once you have selected too many items then it will not. While it may be time consuming, it will produce the answer you seek. that is, is this ROM too big? unless i misunderstood, in which case... disregard this :D

Hmmmm.... anyone know what the ROM size limit is for the 6800 with 2.40 Olipro bootloader?
Instead of the hit/miss method, I could just calculate my ROM size.

(Though I'd swear when I flashed this from home this weekend, I was using smaller ROMS just to try to get the darn thing to boot). I guess this is where thr 6700 is just a little bit easier to mod.

---------------------------

Meanwhile, between the finikiness of the 6800, and the fact that my fricking ActiveSync won't see my phone unless I reboot (each time I disconnect), I"m getting pissed. ARG!!!!! Can't this be easier to hack, like my customer's networks.

---------------------------
Update:
The good news, I downgraded again back to the default, etc...., and at least the phone is working again.
I'll re-upgrade again later.

Freezing At Splash!!!!

Ok, what gives. I'm still freezing.
This is what I've done so far:

Friday:
a) Friday: unlocked and installed Sprint Radio (3.35 for GPS)
b) Flashed ROM (forgot what base build)
c) Enjoyed functioning phone (with GPS enabled and working).

Saturday/Sunday:
a) Re-flashed new ROM to install more apps.
b) in-advertantly let some Sprint customizations reinstall
c) reverted phone back to Verizon default (as per thread instructions)
i) Ran re-locker
ii) installed stock Verizon ROM (and allowed Verizon customization to install and run)

At this point the phone is back to funtioning as normal like the day it came out of the box.

Monday:
a) re-ran the upgrade procedure as per the thread
i) ran Olipro 2.4
ii) ran Sprint radio (3.35, as I don't have a SD card yet for 3.42)
(I'm praying someone will tell me this will be resolved once I try 3.42).
iii) reflashed with ROM from BUILDOS Kitchen.
b) no matter what, phone won't boot past 2nd splash screen
i ) tried removing battery, letting sit for 10 minutes and then hard-reset

Current phone settings:
a) Bootloader screen:
TITA100 MFG
SPL-2.40.Olipro
CPLD-9

b) When booting as normal:
M 09
B 03
P ACAAAAM-4070
R 1.30.60
D 3.49

What REALLY gets me frustrated is that I KNOW I had it working great Friday.

Good catch. In my haste, I kept seeing the "D 3.49" and thinking that was the radio.
Hmmmm..... weird, because I ran the Sprint radio (3.35) which 'should" have upgraded it. (Ran it a few times, actually). I may wait until later today when my SD cards arrive. Then I'll try to install the 3.42 via the SD installation.

Gervy you could take the 3.42.40 radio and drop it in an RUU and flash that way. Just name the file RUU_Signed .nbh ( I think).

Instead of 3 splash screens, and a very quick animated gif... is there any way to make the animated gif on boot longer?

OK, this is weird. I re-ran the sprint Radio update, it didn't try to run the customzations when it booted back, and now it all words.

WTF - I swear I tried that about 5 times this morning, but only worked after reading an email here about it. Man, the Gremlins are fooling with me hard core lately.

1) Keep it away from bright light,
2) Don't get any water on it, and
3) Never, never ever feed it after midnight.

Has anybody used this guide for US Cellular? It seems very easy to follow, but I know some carriers are different and want to get as much info as I can before I jump in to this. I know the USCC phones have the oldest firmware, and am curious what steps are different, if any.

Thanks for this guide!

if the uscc is under the carriers in the kitchen than yes...
and it so seems that it is. so follow these steps here and read through your stuff before you jump in. and make sure that you have a copy of an official rom on hand so if something happens as in the screen dies than you can have a legit rom on it when it goes for servicing, its just an example not sayin that if you flash a custom rom than your screen die, just thought id clear that up so we dont get a hundred and one questions bout if they flash a custom rom it will kill their screen.

I don't know if anyone has a good original USCC ROM. I think DCD might, but it is also with an older radio that might not work. USCC has not released any updates for this phone, and it seems like they have no plans to in the future.

I know that USCC is listed, the question I have is if anybody who upgraded their phone used this tutorial, and if so, are there any differences specific to USCC. I have read Maverick351's guide as well, but it was from April, and this is newer.

Is there a USCC customer who used this guide? I realy want to dive in and try this, I was just hoping for a little more insight before I do. If any USCC customers can help me through chat with this sometime this week, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks

You can do it one of several ways. You can use the sprint ROM to update your phone. If you are a Sprint customer this may very well be the best way. (This has not been tested by me with VZW but is said to work) If you have another carrier, you can install the latest Sprint ROM to your phone as well. When the phone reboots to the screen that says "tap here to setup", you need to put the phone back in bootloader. DO NOT PROCEED PAST THIS SCREEN so that customizations do not run. If you proceed and allow the Sprint customizations to run, you will have to search the forum to find the method to reverse the Sprint settings on your device. The reason you as a VZW customer would run the Sprint ROM is that Sprint has released a ROM that has a GPS enabled radio in it. VZW has not done so at this point. So basically you are doing it only to get the radio. That is not your only option to obtain and install a GPS enabled Radio. The following methods are how I did mine. You can download the latest Radio (3.42.30) and place the file (radio) on an SD card, rename that file to TITAIMG.nbh. Place the SD card into the device and put the phone into bootloader mode (Power, camera, reset) and follow the prompts on the screen to update the radio. You can also look for the 3.35 radio on the FTP that is packaged in an installer. All you have to do is plug your phone to your PC and double click the icon, then follow the prompts. I prefer to flash with a SD card. Much easier and you don't have to worry about computer issues. By the way don't worry about the phone failing to boot past the splash screen after you install the radio, because it won't. The radio you just put on is not compatible with the stock ROM.
Once you have unlocked and installed a radio you are ready to load your custom ROM. So at this point you can use one of the Custom ROM's that are posted here at ppcgeeks.com, such as no2chems or DCD's , or you can venture into the world of building your own.

Here's my next issue....
I'm runing AOK on 3.35 (exe installed on my PC). However when trying to run the 3.42.40 or 3.42.50 radio from my SD card, as soon as I go to enter bootloader mode, I see some sort of instructions flash REALLY fast, and then the normal bootloader screen pops up. What gives?

I use the 512mb Sandisk that came w/ my phone...

Hmmmmm.... 2GB Kingston cheapo.
I would think that it's in FAT32 format but the properties won't show, and strangely enough when I try to format with Resco File Explorer it says the card is locked. I may have to wait until I'm home and can use my all-in-one card reader to screw with it.

Though, it seems the phone sees the card & file, I've not seen those instructions pop-up before. (Not that I can read them now since pop-up is soooo fast, all I can see is "loading...." and then boom... bootloader screen). Erg.

Re: Step by Step tutorial for unlocking your device and cooking your own ROM!!!

Yes it is better to do it with a card reader or you can use nuespl. I have not personnaly used nuespl to format so I cannot tell exactly how to do it. I just used a card reader, right clicked on the card and used format. I use a 2gb card as well. Actually 2 of them and they both work fine. Make sure the file is on the root of the storage card and it is named TITAIMG.nbh. If the screen that pops up is grey then yes it is trying to read the file.

Card reader did the trick. Upgraded nice and easy. Funny though, it seemed to lock onto GPS sats slower than the older radio. Then again, living where I do (notorious for horrible GPS reception), it's hard to tell.

THANKS!!!!

The first lock for me is kinda slow. After I have done a couple of locks on a new ROM it seems to work faster after that. Even after soft resets. Glad your up and running. Hope you enjoy!

First I'd just make sure the radio upgraded, to check your radio version:
Easiest way to do this is look for R when you reboot the phone, the number right after is your version

It could also be that your not running an unlocked bootloader...
Press Camera + Power + Reset to enter bootloader, does it say 2.40 or 2.47?
If not, then you need to install 2.40 Olipro or 2.47 NueSPL

Re: Step by Step tutorial for unlocking your device and cooking your own ROM!!!

ok, it seems to be working better now...but i have nothing on my phone for apps wise...do you think that it might have been bad apps, conflicting roms or what.

i believe i have everyhting set up correctly-
rom build ok damnit i forgot the build again...on my other computer titan 6.0 or something

but the radio is 3.35

Now, once i loaded my rom, do i have to do anything special..like lock it or anything

i always no matter what..take the battery out for a minute and do the hard reset
most of the time though it hangs up on the second screen for like ever

Nope nothing special, just make sure your using one of the bootloaders i mentioned in my prev post ;-)
I flash via SD Card, it seems like it takes longer for the first boot, than the actual flash time
(could just be my misconception of time)

For one question i have? everyone seems to be flashing via SD card but dont you all have a micro card? My pc doesnt have a micro card reader? do you guys have and adapter which turns it into a regular size SD? I have the ppc6800.
The other issue i have is with the Prime Contacts from one of the mods.. Forget which one, but its on the updates in BuildOs. Everything works fine, but when i hit the Big Green call button for a contact it does nothing. Its suppose to send it to dial but the button does nothing. ? Any ideas
Thanks

Re: Step by Step tutorial for unlocking your device and cooking your own ROM!!!

Hey GA thanks for the wonderful tutorial and thanks to all the others contributing to this thread. I am yet to do my first flash... I have been wanting to use my gps for a while now, but I was too scared to brick my phone. I decided to wait for the verizon update and was hoping that it would allow other programs to use gps. I am sure you know how that turned out. Long story short... I am finally ready to do my first flash ever (still scary even with a great tutorial like this one), but I have been reading around and now I am nervous because I've read that by flashing the verizon update, I have made things more difficult for myself because it does something to some PRI or some other junk. I've read some speculation of ways to get around this... None of which have been confirmed, and of course, none of which I even understand. You all here seem like very good and patient teachers. I was wondering if you can let me know what my next (first) step should be, and if not, at least point me in the right direction. Oh, one of the options I was reading required a DMU reset or something or switching phones for a little bit. Again, not really understanding, but I don't have another pda phone to switch to, and I don't wanna lose my current unlimited data plan because I don't think it's offered anymore. So a solution other than that one would be appreciated. Thanks in advance all.

Sorry if this is too off topic and isn't what this thread is here for...

Re: Step by Step tutorial for unlocking your device and cooking your own ROM!!!

I did not flash the new update so I have not had to learn the process of getting the GPS working after the flash of the VZW ROM. I know there are several post relating to it. My suggestion would be to search for those post. I hate to be the guy that says "search is you friend", but that is my only resolution I can offer in this case.

Not-so-Quick question, sorry if you answered it already. I downloaded rar files for the ROM I want and the radio I want. When I unRAR the one for the Radio, and there is an nbh file, which I assume is what I understand I'll be putting on the SD card and flashing with (correct?). My other question is about the ROM (dcd kitchen 3.2.6). When I unrar the rom, there is a ton of stuff in a folder. I was thinking it was gonna be one file I would put on the SD and rename... Was I not supposed to unrar it or what? or is it the whole folder that is supposed to go on the SD? Basically.. What am I to put on the SD to flash?

Thankfully I have not done anything yet. I was only walking myself through everything and trying to make sure I understood everything, then I got to this point. Thanks for your help in advance.

Edit:
So I looked around in the folders and found the RUU in the folder. I don't know if my next step would be to just connect and run this. I expect to be stuck at splash screen since I would have a gps radio and stock rom at this stage... will I need to put it in BL or anything else? Help... Thanks. If this stuff, is common sense, please be gentle... first timer... soon

Was I not supposed to unrar it or what? or is it the whole folder that is supposed to go on the SD? Basically.. What am I to put on the SD to flash?

Thankfully I have not done anything yet. I was only walking myself through everything and trying to make sure I understood everything, then I got to this point. Thanks for your help in advance.

to the first question, yeah just rename (if needed) the nbh

as far as the ROM, it sounds like its already in an RUU folder:
to flash via RUU, just look for the exe to start the Rom Upgrade Utility..
to flash via SD Card look for RUU_signed.nbh and rename + drag to card...

Wow Thanks for the fast reply! I did find the RUU in the folder. I was posting an edit as you were replying to this. I didn't know if I was able to run that while in splash screen because that's where I expect to be stuck with the gps radio and stock rom. Would I need to put in BL or do anything special... or is it really just plug up and run RUU? Thanks again!
