for those that are new...

its been a while...
and I basically got the gist of most of things by reading for hours on end.

but... there are some things I just cannot find out... and I've read that some people don't get it either but they just run programs trying to figure out what it does, or what it is.

but anyways... we need an update on what certain terms or words or numbers or acronyms.

like these?

PPST
SPL
radio
build vs kitchen
(I think I know what those are but what I'm trying to clarify with this is, since builds are actually put together by more registry savvy individuals, would they be more stable than kitchens? are kitchens less stable bc you get to choose which programs go into the system and some times things need to be done to make sure all programs run properly?)

builds vs roms.
flavors
5067, 5770 and 20226 and 20270

why do some people just update the ruu and not build a whole install program. and if they do update the ruu, where is the install program?

why do some people use olipro unlocker and some people use spl unlocker? and does it matter which one you use?

why does no2chem's builds say nueROM... is it someone else's he's building on?

anyways thats all the questions i can think of now if you have any terns you don't know then put it up here? maybe we can sticky it and update whole lists as we go along... ill do it if it gets big enough.

Re: for those that are new...

Actually alot of the questions you are asking about can all be found by taking a little time researching it. I remember a couple of years ago when I found out about ppcgeeks, at the time I had my dear ppc6700 and I didn't know jack about all this custom stuff. But I took my time reading so many different threads over and over again then finally found the balls to start flashing. Now when the mogul came out it was like starting all over again, I had to read all the new stuff that was happening with the mogul and research some more before I started flashing again. Honestly if you really want to flash your phone and maximize its performance, its definitely worth the time researching since there is no real easy way of explaining it regardless of how many stickies there are.

Wow that's a lot of question

PPST - not sure how to explain this one
SPL - this is your bootloader (can be either stock, olipro, or nueSPL)
radio - this is what you upgrade to get GPS and ReV A

build vs kitchen - build refers to build number in "about" on the OS
kitchen is where you can cook a ROM, for diff builds theres diff kitchens

5067 and 5770 are no2chem's ROMs (he has his own numbering system)

and 20226 and 20270 are builds (taken from other WMDs)

RUU is the ROM Update Utility

Some people use Olipro 2.40, while other use the NueSPL 2.47 -
either can be used, but NueSPL can only be installed from SD Card AFTER you upgrade to GPS Rom

NueRom is what no2chem has chosen to call his ROMs

That's about all the answers i can think of...

ok buddy... im sorry... but if you check your sign in date vs mine I will tell you that I've been doing this longer than you. check pdaphonehome.com... we started with the same phone. and so if you knew... why don't you answer either like how the guy after answered. or linked me a thread that was to be productive. and if you want to tell me what to do like search... atleast take into assumption that I did do that. but i couldn't find it. or my questions were ignored bc it was kinda off topic.

Don't take this the wrong way, but your ADHD might be getting the best of you here. Perhaps you should write your posts first in notepad, let them rest for an hour, and, if it is still important enough and you are really sure that's what you want to say, then post. Otherwise, the 'normals' might not quite understand your intentions...

Re: for those that are new...

honestly if you would read the stickies it would be very helpful to you i know some info is hard to find but i have spent many many hours reading and working on this and now i am developing my own ROM. you must be patient while reading the forums. you must master the search function and not expect info to just jump out at you. if you ask for info please do not lash out at all the posts in the thread that tell you to search. people have said that alot of your info could be found with reading and searching and alot of it can. just pull up a comfy chair and be ready to read.

Re: for those that are new...

i have searched... and I have seen people say I was having problems with (xxx) and I didn't know what ppst was and I ran it... and it didn't do anything noticeable. Im very hesitant about trying things on my phone bc unlike some people who has things like test phones, and stuff like that. I don't have that luxury. I remember i broke my usb plug and it took me 4 months to get a new phone. have neither have the time or the money to do that. and yes it may be repairable by throwing into boot loader mode. but... yea... and really... with my wifey getting mad about every second i spend on the computer. just think about if i start cooking. so ...

I do apologize for the flaring up. but... I have searched. and reading 56 pages of one thread HOPING to see if anyone says anything about ppst and such. i was pretty sure i knew what the difference between a build and a kitchen was... i know what a cook is and i know what SPL and radios (sort of) and yea i didn't know that n2c's named his builds different from his name. bc everyone else uses thier own names. so i thought he modded someone elses build and made it better. or put his own twist.

im sorry.

Re: for those that are new...

ok, everyone chill!!! oh and can someone tell me what PPST stands for?

@ knewBee4lyfe - in theory you should always advise if you have searched, such as the above, a quick google search will tell you that it updates the PRI - of course if anyone cares to elaborate...

@ themuffinman - i know he posted a huge list of mostly simple questions... and that its aggravating to see the same n00b questions over and over, but perhaps he did search? you know some people are better at searching than others... the best solution is to pick a thread.... and then respond with the usual... have you searched? n00b look around !!! then add 'check out this thread' like Ga. Medic
