To upgrade, or not to upgrade...

Ok, here's the deal. I have the BuildOS kitchen kit from ppckitchen.org and have flashed my XV6700 several times with several variations. With each flash, I liked my phone more and more until I found my perfect mix and was in heaven. Well, here's the thing. I just picked up an XV6800 and want to flash it to an ideal flash. But, I read around on all the posts and see all the "hazardous" steps that one must go through in order to make a good flash for the phone, which makes me hesitant. So, as of this posting, is the most updated kitchen stable? Is anybody working on a program/batch process that will do all the "hazardous" steps, flash a custom rom and make a nice phone nicer? Does anybody have the ruu for the original Verizon rom/radio in case of a bad flash? I read around in the forum but I can't see anything that says outright that all this is being done/not done. I want to reflash, but unless the 6800 steps are as easy and safe for my phone as for my 6700, I don't want to reflash. Help!

Re: To upgrade, or not to upgrade...

I'm with you on this, save the 6700 - I had an i730 that was nothing but trouble.
Anyway, I just asked a bunch of related questions about this upgrade process for the 6800 here: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...nuespl-&page=8

I don't think I have the time to learn the kitchen process right now - but I definitely would like to get more out of this phone.

So, I hope we can finish piecing this together to improve our odds of success.

Re: To upgrade, or not to upgrade...

Yes. The 6800 in my mind is much better than either of our past phones. I don't have as many questions as you posted in your other forum. Some I can answer. Mostly that your phone will still act like it does now. It will sync the same, connect the same, and basically be the same with the exceptions that a few things locked down by Verizon will be unlocked, a few programs can be added and some overall functional additions and improvements will be available. I'm ok with how my phone sits now. I don't really want to upgrade to a usable GPS until everybody figures out what's up with everything. There's a few programs I want in the kitchen that I wish would be packaged as something that could be self installed as a program rather than part of a rom kit. But, if this thing becomes more fool proof, I'll definitely be flashing soon.

Re: To upgrade, or not to upgrade...

OK - got my 6800 upgraded - not too bad overall - had a couple of hitches - you can follow my progress in what's currently at the end of this thread: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=31034 Just want to say that Cornelious2 was and is still being of mondo assistance - major props to him/her.

You may have to re-do your A-Key, I had to - probably due to the radio change - but that's just my guess. Could also be because of the Sprint ROM in the middle. I don't know - but Vzw did not give me any hassles - gave them the hard reset line and they didn't ask any questions - just gave me the key - so I'm up under WM6.1 and NexVision's custom ROM. May try some others just to see what's different - this one seems to be OK - got a couple of minor hitches though - it seems like he/she is working on ironing them out though - so no worries for me. GL - Ciao - MP.

Re: To upgrade, or not to upgrade...

I just went from 6700 to 6800 within the last few weeks. If you were using the kitchen for your 6700 then it will be easier for you than most. Run the nuespl(2.47) instead of olipro 2.40 because you can do it from an SD card. You can also flash the 2.42.30 radio with a card. Then all you have to do is build a ROM with the ppcgeeks.org kitchen and Flash your phone. Of course you will run the updater for the kitchen(if you were using that kitchen for your 6700) and select the TITAN files.
