EVDO REV A and new 3.56 ROM

A few months ago------I loaded the latest Sprint 3.35 ROM and in that ROM----strangely-----you had to have it listed as "Disabled" for EVDO REV A to work.... (or at least that is what I gathered from this forum----and that is the setting I used)

In this new 3.56 ROM----the reverse seems to be true----it comes default "Enabled"

But when I "Dsabled" it----I saw no change in speed......

When I re-Enabled it----all of a sudden my speeds were 3 times faster!!!!

My only conclusions after this experience are:

1. The Correct setting for EVDO REV A Data on this new 3.56 ROM is "Enabled"

2. If you are getting lousy download speeds---try disabling ----it will force a sof reboot......then re-enable it----and it again will force a soft reboot.....

Any of you having the same experiences???

Re: EVDO REV A and new 3.56 ROM

Was getting 105-118 kbits per second

Changed it to disabled-----got the same...

Changed it back to Enbaled and the scores jumped to 300-400 Kbits per second

And the ROM came set to "Enabled in this version----unlike the ROM being automatically set to "Disabled" in the 3.35 version

Don't know why I had to go through this to get the better speeds----but that was my experience.....

Yours??

My thought is Sprint saw all the post in 3.35 rom and changed to enabled to me just that to stop the confusion in rom settings from here out. I had also noticed the "enabled" after updating 3.56 rom.

i haven't checked the verbiage of the newest ROM....but the first RevA ROM upgrade that Sprint actually put on their site DID NOT have RevA set to "Disabled"....

it was confusing because next to the RevA option it said "Disable"...it is best to think of this option like a button rather than a value.....

ie. if you click the value it will Disable the revA....upon actually clicking "Disable", the phone would reset and if you looked at the value again it would say "Enable".....at this point your revA would be disabled, until you clicked "Enable" to turn it back on....

now again, this may have been something they changed in the newer "official" leaked ROM...i am not running it anymore(upgraded to a custom ROM).......but i advise you to go back into the settings and carefully read the verbiage......i wouldn't be suprised if you(like i and most others) are just imagining that extra "d" at the end of the verbs.

It DOES say---just "Enable"---not "Enabled

So here is How I tested.

Found a consistant signal strength outside my house (2 Bars) and stood in exactly the same place for each test.

Tested with the Button saying "Disable" and then again with button saying "Enable"

Used DSL Reports mobile speed test 400K file and ran the test 3 times then averaged. I also soft booted twice as well as turned the phone off and on------between the two settings to insure that the setting was "set"

Enable button showing: Avg. approx 420 Kbits per second

Disable button showing: Avg. approx 420 Kbits per second

My conclusion is:------- I don't know what to conclude.....

I set it in ##778# (Data Parameters)------Did I do this wrong??

Re: EVDO REV A and new 3.56 ROM

I'm not sure that you will necessarily see significantly faster download speeds when switching between standard EVDO and EVDO Rev A. For comparison purposes I tested my new Sprint Mogul (supposedly using EVDO Rev A) and my old Sprint PPC-6700 (without EVDO Rev A). The EVDO Rev A Mogul averaged 872 kbit/sec, whereas the non-EVDO Rev A PPC-6700 averaged 832 kbit/sec. So there was only a small improvement in download speeds. (Other differences, besides EVDO Rev., such as radio and hardware can also account for some of the performance differences.)

But, the EVDO Rev A Mogul did show a very significant improvement in latency - at only 0.225 secs. compared to 0.422 secs. for my PPC-6700.

So you may also want to compare differences in latency when testing standard EVDO and EVDO Rev. A performance. (BTW, I use http://www.dslreports.com/msp and test with a 1MB file size. This site allows me to run tests on my mobile phone as well as my home computers for comparison purposes.)

So I'm a little new to this, but apparently I need the unlock code for my phone to try this out. How do I get the code, or how do I unlock it some other way? Thanks in advance.

Re: EVDO REV A and new 3.56 ROM

Excellent explantion----I will check latencies and use the 1 MB file as well.

For my edification----how are all these guys getting the Speedtest.net results?? The ones they post in their signatures?

I go to Speedtest.net and it says I don't hav Java or Flash or something I need.....

The unlock code is 000000 but I don't see a setting for EVDO enable/disable. What is it under? I looked under every catagory and didn't see it. I am guessing you guys are doing it under ##778?
