Re: Simple steps to flashing your own rom
I decided to use spl2.40 since I wasn't having much luck with the 2.47.
Going from stock. I Flashed sprint 3.56 rom did not let boot past htc screen that shows the rev #s - rebooted back into boot-loader. Then flashed dcd 3.2.2. After reboot did the dcd vzw carrier cab. Then flashed the new radio via SD - and it actually worked. I then appeared to be having radio problems as it would not find a tower. Eventually it did and I was able to do the *228 prog & roam updates. I have since been able to make calls so my A-Key didn't get hosed - but again I have no data connection. So, the only thing that I can take from this experience is, I'm not sure wtf causes the PRI to get screwed up. It just happens sometimes no matter which sequence I follow. |
Re: Simple steps to flashing your own rom
at least it works now =)

shaggy explains it better here Only works once the device is fully powered down, but you can get into bootloader w/ no stylus |
Re: Simple steps to flashing your own rom
I've had something strange happen. I was about to call regarding my hosed data connection and I've lost my connection to the towers. It just says 'Searching' now and I get three scrolling dots '...' under the signal symbol.
So, I call TS and the guy's sending out a new phone - cause he couldn't fix it. Was this something that I've caused - or just the phone croaking prematurely - or something different entirely? Thanks in advance for the ideas, thoughts, and otherwise.... |
Re: Simple steps to flashing your own rom

1) u might think about adding some numbers to each step 2) u might think about using color/font/italics/bold/etc to highlight the points you want to get across.... |

check out the first post this thread and see how dharvey uses diff colors, like yellow, white, black, etc - yeah i know its time consuming to edit but it really looks good... i've found that when using red if you dont bold it, it doesn't look good w/ the darkblue background... also size is your friend, when trying to get a point/warning across :D hey it's your call what colors you use... just another friendly suggestion |
Re: Simple steps to flashing your own rom
minor edit ( rom preference)

Re: Simple steps to flashing your own rom
Yes. I do have some questions and confusion about SD rom flashing. I've flashed several roms via usb to my 6700 and recently to my 6800 and it's never failed to be a headache. So the potential to bypass those problems and flash via the SD route is very inviting.
But I have a few points of confusion after reading this thread and GaMedic's tutorial on the subject. 1. Does the unlocker file (I'm using the nueSPL-2.47) need to be run only once to unlock your phone, or does it need to be run each time you flash a new rom? (I suppose another way of asking this is, "Does the phone re-lock itself after each new ROM is flashed?) 2. I installed the new radio (3.42.50) via SD and it's working fine. And installed a new 5067 kitchen via SD and it's working OK, but I need to re-cook the ROM with some different features and reflash. However I haven't yet been able to accomplish the re-flash. I can get to the bootloader screen (SPL-2.40), but when I put the ROM in the SD card's root directory and try to flash it (pwr/cam/reset) the tricolor screen goes away for an instant, during which time the gray screen says "loading," but then the tri-color instantly returns and the phone just sits there, seemingly doing nothing. I'm obviously doing something wrong...I just can't seem to grasp what it is! O great ones, take pity on your uneducated fellow mogul-traveler and enlighten me. Rick Russell (rrvo) |

1a nuespl is version 2.47 so you are probably running olipro and not the nuespl you install nuespl by running the exe on your phone not the sd card but the phone memory. (your memory card will get wiped if you dont have it already formated to fat 32 so make sure you back it up. it will format your card. 2 are you renaming the nbh file to TITAIMG.nbh ? I dont know if its case sensitive but I always did it uppercase TITAIMG and lowercase .nbh |
Re: Simple steps to flashing your own rom
well I hope that solved your problem, sent a pm if you still have issues let me know

Re: Simple steps to flashing your own rom
this thread is way too cool. it should be labeled as the advanced flashing. there is another thread that uses directions for o/s builder. that should be labeled as novice/getting your feet wet. i used both of these threads to flash 2 phones with some headaches as a noob starting out, but got it done none the less with some extra tips here and there.
i also found that 3.35.04 radio dorks with the verizon cell reception. for whats its worth-- i now have 6.1 with fast locking gps per this thread i'm getting ready to cook my own rom and make my phone mine! Thanks all RD |

Re: Simple steps to flashing your own rom
I just ordered Sprint's HTC Touch so I should get it tomorrow. I've been browsing these forums for the last couple of days so I would know what to do when I get it. I still have questions, but I think the majority of them will be answered once I sit down and start flashing. Being my first PPC, I must admit I'm a little nervous... in the same way you get nervous when you're flashing your PC's BIOS.
Mainly just wanted to say thanks for this thread and holding on to it for later. |

Yeah it's the Vogue. Thanks for those links:) I just got this thing activated today and messed around with the default cube and UI long enough to want it changed already... not to mention unlocking the GPS. I guess I'm off to look for ROMs now... |

Then once your ready... 1) unlock (be aware of your radio version) 2) upgrade radio (if needed/wanted) 3) install custom rom Of course that's just the basic idea (in its simplest form), not a complete walkthru... |
Re: Simple steps to flashing your own rom
Is there a way to see if the Mem card is formatted in fat32 on the device itself?
|
Re: Simple steps to flashing your own rom
if you try to install Nue SPL it will check that before it installs. if you see any red x's that means something has to be fixed (most likley the card has to be reformated) if you see all check marks your fine. but remember reformating your card wipes all data so make sure if you have anything you want to keep on it you transfer it to a pc/phone memory before you format, and transfer from phone memory back to the card before you flash/hardreset.
