What is the BEST Verizon Mogul 6.1/GPS Upgrade

Yes. I know... it's been asked a few times before, and there are countless articles relating to the many different Upgrade ROMS and Radio combinations - BUT, we'd like to know - which of the options is THE BEST of same - to run on our priceless VX6800 Mogul/Titans - on the Verizon Wireless network... and allows the unlocking and operation of the on-board GPS...?!?

Some require a number of steps to upgrade the 1.30.60 Radio and 2.09.605.8ase ROM - from the original out-of-the-box device, others offer a recipe of other required steps this side of wearing tin foil on one's head to keep out the voices (as a parent of teenagers, I've simply learned to not listen to them, and a select amount we're warned to stay away from.

For the NOOB and experienced PPCGeek member alike, would fellow readers please submit their favorite versions of the above...!?

Thank you for your kind contribution!

I personally think No2Chem makes the best ROMs.

Re: What is the BEST Verizon Mogul 6.1/GPS Upgrade

i havent really noticed a difference from radio 3.35 to 3.39. maybe 5 seconds less in 3.39 in finding satellites. ive tried No2Chem's ROMs on several occasions, but always have trouble with them. i upped the pagepool on DCD's latest and the thing couldnt get any more responsive (alright, i lied. it can). also, i dont know why you would even consider using a radio under 3.3x. its not that difficult upgrading, plus you get gps and RevA.

Re: What is the BEST Verizon Mogul 6.1/GPS Upgrade

The thing is when you start flashing its not something you can do just once. Some people are fans of DCD's, no2chem, vetvito, nex, etc.... But the reason any one person maybe a fan of a particlur rom maker is because they probably tried them all. What might be good for me may not be good for you and so on. So the best thing to do is to just get the flashing and do some testing to see which will fit your needs the best.

Why not just use the PPC Kitchen ( http://www.ppckitchen.org ) and make your own ROM? That way you can try different ROMs and combinations of software until you find a ROM that works for you

Re: What is the BEST Verizon Mogul 6.1/GPS Upgrade

Well I’ve been wanting to ask this question for awhile. I can’t seem to find anything under the search that would apply. If I upgrade my xv6800 will I lose the ability to send MMS pix and vid messages? I haven’t decided on what rom to update to yet, but I was just wondering.

Thanks!

If you use the kitchen then there is an option in the kitchen process to include Arcsoft v3, which will provice you the MMS capability. If you use a built ROM then you need to see if MMS functionality is included in the ROM.

Re: What is the BEST Verizon Mogul 6.1/GPS Upgrade

I did the unlock->Sprint->kitchen route. It was a bit of a hassle to get the phone working again as it had to be reauthenticated (of course, I did call tech support at 11:30 at night). But once that was done, everything else was easy. I've built and flashed about 5 different ROMs now working out the best balance of features. I have noticed that it's a lot less important to stick things in the ROM on the 6800 as there's so much more space available for programs in regular user space.

Re: What is the BEST Verizon Mogul 6.1/GPS Upgrade

I've used several ROMs from different burners... N2C is my favorite. His are the fastest and most utilitarian ROMs out there. I don't want frilly crap on my phone, I want a functional phone.

N2C 506X w/3.35 Radio.... rocks.
