Re: Are the GPS settings hard-coded in these ROMs?

i wonder if there is some kind inherent quality inconsistency in the radios on HTC phones. I previously had a Vogue and I got 5 second fixes upon a cold boot from both Tomtom with AstroGPSLauncher and Google Maps, but many people using the same ROMs would tell me about having serious difficulties.

Now I have a Titan/Mogul. The same deal, GPS worked like a charm as soon as i loaded the Titan Radio from the Sprint factory ROM.

Sorry this isn't more helpful, but maybe compare your phone to a friend's?

Re: Are the GPS settings hard-coded in these ROMs?

I am not interested in getting the internal GPS to work. I already have it working, provided it can get a signal... it just doesn't work as well as the external GPS receiver that I have. The external device is more accurate and faster to update.

Why am I unable to change the settings using the "External GPS" icon, even if I flash with a "No GPS" ROM?

I perform a hard reset after any reflash.

Re: Are the GPS settings hard-coded in these ROMs?

From my experience, the settings in "External GPS" really only apply to the internal GPS and configure a port that emulates an external GPS.

I can switch back and forth between the internal and external Bluetooth GPS on my Mogul just by selecting different ports in my application. If your application does not allow you to manually select the port, try disabling the "Manage GPS Automatically" check-box in "External GPS", and configure your Bluetooth GPS to use a COM port such as COM5, and see if the application will find it.

If you have not already done so, after you pair the Bluetooth GPS receiver, go to the "COM Ports" tab and create a "New Outgoing Port" for that device.

I have successfully used the "External GPS" icon to configure an external GPS (go figure! ) on my XV6700 with no problems at all.

Try doing that with a program that doesn't have its own GPS configuration and *depends* on the Windows settings...

I feel your pain. I eventually gave up. But as I said in my previous post, after a did a hard reset the internal GPS was much, much better, so I'm not complaining anymore.

I know you said you've reflashed your phone numerous times, but did you try installing the stock ROM then do a hard reset? I have no explanation why my GPS improved, but it's worth a shot.

Have you checked to see if that HTC guardian or whatever is running and changing stuff back? I've never done it but I know people have to remove that to change DNS servers and such to keep them from getting switched back - maybe it is changing the GPS settings - just a thought...

Actually, I was suggesting that YOU try doing that; possibly your application will find the external GPS if the internal one is turned off. Since you are keeping any details of the subject application secret, no one else can try it or offer any experiences they may have had with that same application.

I have the Sprint Mogul, and running the stock OEM 3.35 ROM, can set the parameters in that External GPS screen and they stick. You aren't doing something like pressing OK to exit and "save" the changes when you have Task Manager set to close apps with a tap?

I've never heard of HTC Guardian, so I'm certain I don't have it loaded.

LOL... I'm not keeping any secrets. One example of an application that relies on the Windows settings is GPS Today.

You know WHY you can change the settings? ...because you're running the stock OEM ROM.

I am using WkTask, but I have it set to NOT close automatically (tap action set to "do nothing"). If I want to close the app, I have to tap and hold for the menu, then choose "close".

My internal GPS does this. It can even show what quadrant of my deck I am on when using Live Search.

Color me jealous. If mine worked that well, I wouldn't be asking these questions.

The overall point is... these settings should not be hard-coded, even if the internal GPS is supposed to work perfectly fine.
