Compiled list of questions before i flash:

I have a VX6800 and i absolutely hate that the GPS doesn't function. So i've been reading up on flashing roms all over these forums and XDA.

I've read these threads with special attention:
http://www.htcwiki.com/page/Hacking+HTC+Mogul
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=17667
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=25542
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=21167
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=21161

After reading up i still have a few concerns i'm hoping you guys will give me a hand with. Searches haven't provided me with answers enough that i feel comfortable flashing my phone yet.

1) My main PC runs vista 64-bit. Is this a source of concern? Should i use my laptop which runs Xp pro?

2) I'm having trouble understanding the "architecture" of a PPC.
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=17667
That thread helped alot but i'm still a bit confused about the radio rom vs the OS rom. Are they actually two different things or two parts of the same whole?

3) Boot loaders. This seems to be where things can go wrong. From what ive read if you've successfully installed a boot loader you can probably trouble shoot problems with rom installs but if the boot loader is borked you've got a brick. Is this the case? If it is what is the MOST reliable boot loader i can use?

4) All those numbers =P. The ESN/MSL A-key MSID etc... Is there some where that defines what these do in detail? I know they're identifiers for your cell provider but i'd like to know a little more about them.

5) i see alot of posts on the titan boards that start like this "Verizon 6800 *something bad* Help!!!". It seems like people have trouble with the vx6800 more than other models. Is there a reason for this? What do i need to know specifically about the vx6800?

These threads help some but are not very detailed:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=21161
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=21167

6) the term 'unlocking". Does this simply means using a boot loader that isn't restricted to "official" roms? If not what exactly does "unlocking" mean.

I've read enough i think i can pull this off on my own. I'd just like a little guidance before i take the plunge.

You'll be fine.
just keep your eyes glued to the process and do NOT let the customizations run, once it finally boots up.
check my post here, for a visual walkthrough of the process. LINK.
good luck to ya ! it's nowhere near as horrifying as it might seem to be.

Lots of TELUS firsttimer were able to succussfully update their titan by following my instructions here
http://howardforums.com/showpost.php...43&postcount=1
For verizon everything will be the saem except the last step where you will need a verizon rom instead of telus.

the best thing that you did was research research research before you asked questions that have been answered 100 times before, and for that i would like to personally thank you. i have been flashing with x64 vista and it works fine for me.

Kinda like my OP said i did? I've been reading for weeks, i want details on the questions i listed above.

Edit - You know what? I totally misread your post. Thought it was just another "use the search" button reply. Lol thanks for the praise. Sorry for jumping at you.

Did you have to call Verizon to authenticate your phone again? I had to when I flashed my phone a few weeks ago.

For GPS software...I have actually been liking Windows Live Search. It is a bit clunky to use, more so than Google Maps but one thing it does do is give you turn by turn with audio notifications of when a turn is almost there. It will also recalculate your route if you go off of it.

The thread in the main Titan forum has a bunch of options as well, both free and paid.

Ya, i had to use the *228 after flashing to the sprint rom, but when i flashed from sprint to no2chem 5060 i did not.

I don't have a data plan at the moment (i still say they're waaaaaay too expensive.) I'm looking into getting a Tomtom style nav program. In my high school days i might've pirated one, but i've grown up. =/
