My VZW XV6800 Story

I am starting this thread just to tell my story. It can be removed at anytime. I just thought this has been hilarious! ! !

I have been a HUGE fan of this site and it's developers that have been creating custom ROMs and Kitchens for people like me.

I origanally came across this site when I had my XV6700 and flashed many custom ROMs by the great people that have built and posted them. I purchased my XV6800 back in November 2007 and kept a keen watch for any ROMs coming out for it.

It wasn't long until people were posting the ROMs that enabled the internal GPS of the device and increased the performance. I quickly became familiar with unlocking, flashing, relocking, and reflashing multiple ROMs as they would not work for me and I would have to revert back to the stock ROM.

I would use DCDs ROMs since I prefered the "clean" ROM without any custom apps installed. DCD had actually helped me with a particular issue personally but after that was resolved I still wasn't able to pickup a signal after programming from *228.

This was my issue everytime. I would unlock the device, flash the radio and ROM following the posted instructions and I would have a signal after getting into the OS. I would dial the *228 and the programming would proceed and the device would reboot. Once back into the OS I would not be able to pick up a tower.

To make this a little shorter let's just say that after 4 replacement devices (flashed back to the stock ROM before returning them) and 1 1/2 months later I now have DCD's 3.0.1 ROM fully functional and running on my XV6800. Happy days are here! ! !

This is what the issue was that only 1 VZW tech support figured out. When the other techs asked me to dial ##778 and check the Home SID/Home NID it was displaying 21/65535. All the other techs before said this was correct. The last tech I was talking with said that this is incorrect and that the 21 is Detroit, MI. I live on the West side of Cleveland, OH. For some reason all the phones I was programming over the air defaulted to that setting. The tech then had me change the 21 to a 15 (Cleveland area) and BOOM ! ! ! I've got tone ! ! !

...and that is that. My story. With each tech I spent about 1-2hrs each time trying to get this to work. I would always be reading the replies of everyone using the benfits of the custom ROMs and here I was struggling to get a tower signal.

Big thanks to DCD and the rest of the developers. I would list more but I'm at work tweaking my phone. I was able to get WMWifirouter to work correctly on DCD's ROM but wasn't with the stock ROM. Much love to you all that take the time to develop these things for guys like me.
