editing title bar icons in WM6.1

I posted this a few days ago at xda, with little response, figured I'd try here. It's not TITAN only, but that's what I have..

Hi all, I was looking through sys/shell for the titlebar icons for battery, etc and noticed they are all monochrome bitmap. Has anyone tried changing these icons to 16 color bitmaps and changing the color on them? I really want to try, but I don't feel like doing something idiotic. Anyone have any experience with this? I'm afraid of crippling WM, flashing it, and bricking because I don't have access to a microsd card reader.
