UNHIDE the EXT-ROM in DCD's 3.01 kitchen

i have spent many hours but i have finally unhid the Ext-rom in DCD's 3.01 kitchen. And fixed the bug where it would show u 2 Ext-rom's even though it was just the 1. It comes up as "Mounted Volume" instead of Ext-rom. I havent determined if this is a bad or good thing yet. I also made some cache tweaks of large per portions, (we r talking from 256k to almost 4mb) and still have 25mb of ,memory free after soft reboot. I was able to overcome alot of reg errors and come up with a stable ROM. Oh yea i forgot to mention that the response time from this ROM is great!! ill try and get screenshots later when i get a chance.

BUT, i said BUT, i have the ROM stripped down to the bone, and therefore i need to run a few more tests, before i release a copy of the ROM and the method i used. I have to go to work now and im dead tired so i will post my results later, when i get a chance to do more test.
But rest assured i have found the way to expose the Ext-rom in DCD's 3.01 kitchen for all u DCD fans.

================================================== =======

CREDIT for this goes to No2chem and DCD, for all i did was manipulate what they have created, they provided the tools.

You tease. :)

Good for you. If you wouldn't mind I would like to know how you got in to the Ext ROM.

Re: UNHIDE the EXT-ROM in DCD's 3.01 kitchen

ill go into detail later cause im at work right now, but i took no2chem OEM_flashdrv.dll and made some serious reg edits to DCD's XIP from No2chem XIP. u can imagine the errors i first got, but i have worked all of them out, just have to know figure out what is the best "value for the changes and addons" ive made to the reg. Since the Ext-rom shows up as "Mounted Volume" i am looking into the possibility that maybe i can edit the cache files and other programs to use it as storage instead of our system memory. but not sure if because it says that it is a "mounted volume" that the properties of it has changed. It could just be that where the name of the Ext-rom should be, i accidentally named it incorrectly. BUT if it is seen as a seperate volume or drive by the phone, then we could be talking some great possibilities of reconfiguring how memory is handled.
But i have to go slow cause im coming across uncharted territory for me.
breaks over go to go

I just want to make clear that it says "mounted volume " and not "ext-rom"

u end up with 2 ext-roms, really its just 1. And what i think ive failed to emphasize it that I have made the extrom appear as a harddrive to WM6 instead of a extended partition. This has alot of potential towards making it a swap file. I have started testing to find out where the paramiters are and how i have to create reg values that will be consistent with the properties
of a actual harddrive. basically its tricking the OS to keep thinking that it is what it is not.

i guess its not as big as inventing a new "phone skin" so i wont mention it anymore until i have got all the details worked out

Please keep me posted on this development. This is music to my ears. You do not know the troubles I went through one day trying to get the EXT rom to unlock/unhide. Great work, keep it up!

Well to be honest, no2chem has already developed the extrom unlocker for the titan / what i am working on which i have made a big break thru (for me) anyways is to get the extrom to be recognized as something else than just a ext partion. if u are familiar with swap files or virtual ram for a PC, then u might see where im going with this. I would think it would be awsome to trick WM6 into thinking the phone has 2 harddrives and multiboot WM5 and WM6 onto the phone. 2 operating system installed at the same time on 1 phone. or turn it into a swapfile and that means it would be treated as actual system ram/ i mentioned something like this b4 but everyone said it was impossible/ well i have seen the impossible come out of this forum and XDA, and the impossible just might make another appearance.

ok, now I see what you are saying. It's impossible, in short completely different coding processes.

*Edit*

Yes, I have tried it, and yest it is working on my rom.

Re: UNHIDE the EXT-ROM in DCD's 3.01 kitchen

I started with just trying to get the extrom to show in DCD's 3.01 kitchen. I tried the 1 method mentioned in the link u posted but ran into the same problem. I know that earlier version of DCD kitchen worked but not his 3.01. / well i really started just getting silly with the reg entries and low and behold i got the extrom not only to show up but i actually got it to appear as a different type of harddrive, instead of a extrom. in order for WM6 to think it is other than just a extended partition (which it is) u have to know have to define it with reg entries/ anyways i work at DELL computers and support the installations of operating system so this is a project of mine which until just yesterday i was getting nowhere.

I INCLUDED PICS OF WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT IN MY LAST POST
