new rom worth it?

Okay so, its out...is following the basics on HTC's website not advised? I mean, the last thing I need is to not be with a phone. Do you really need to download a program to get this and that before you just install this? All I'm seeing is tons of problems and its got me a bit nervous. The hard reset I can see, but all the rest seems a bit much to me considering it should be an easy process. Any input would be great, just trying to get an idea of if this is as difficult as it sounds. Thanks guys.

Re: new rom worth it?

it depends on what you're running NOW that will determine if this is 'worth it' or not...

i'm running no2chem's wm6.1 rom... so no it's not worth it to me.. i got the best there is....

Re: new rom worth it?

well nautica kinda i agree but with the new rom i get twice the gps satellites with half the time it took to get any on 3.16. it was a very easy update for me and i even flashed from no2chems 5051. it should be even simpler from a stock rom. oh and with no2chems latest you get alot more battery time with it than anything pre 5053.well at least that has been my experience.

Re: new rom worth it?

yeah, the new update (radio) is worth it for me alone

before GPS would take like 1000 hours to lock on position.. now it only takes like 0.002 nano seconds :P

Re: new rom worth it?

The upgrade process isn't that hard, especially if you are with Sprint.

1. If you've never done a ROM upgrade and you are upgrading to the new official Sprint ROM it's as simple as backing up your phone, downloading the update, connecting your phone (activesyn) and running the upgrade. It updates the ROM and the Radio (which is very important). This basically gives you GPS functionality and faster Data speeds (where it's available). There are other changes but they are minor.

2. Custom ROMs require a bit more work, but if you'd done step number 1 already, you are halfway there. You just have to follow the instructions listed in some of the various custom ROM threads. The added step is that you have to load SPL 2.40-olipro. The confusion also might lie in the fact that there are quite a few custom ROMs available. Just spend some time reading and you can decide what one is best for you.

If you are NOT with Sprint it's a bit more complicated but not that hard. You have to first upgrade the Radio and then do a Custom ROM. I have Sprint so I don't know exactly what the process it... (any comments from non-Sprint ROM experts)

Bottom line, if you don't want of need GPS functionality then it's probably best to leave well enough alone... But IMHO, having a functional GPS on your phone is pretty nice.
