Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM

I actually tried to run DCD's Kitchen first, but has a lot of trouble. I don’t know why. I was in the boot loader and tried to run the ROM according to directions in his word doc. I kept on getting errors saying that I was missing parts of the program. I ran Nue's and it loaded perfectly. I guess I probably could have done the same thing with DCD's Rom by itself, Without the kitchen.

I really don’t have a problem with all of the Sprint stuff in the Nue rom. It connects and that all I care about. :-)

hello all i am also using the sprint update with DCD's kitchen. I seem to be having a problem receiving MMS messages. Has anyone else ran into this? not getting any pictures or anything? I appologize if this has been answered but i have had no problems before I did this update? Any help would be appreciated.

Did you have Visual C++ installed? It's required for DCD's kitchen and is probably the source of your errors.

Do these instructions work for a brand new phone that has never had any flashes or ROM updates? I'm having trouble matching up these instructions vs. http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=9927.

On that link it says the first thing you must do is unlock your phone, these instructions don't seem to mention unlocking. Can I completely ignore that thread and just follow the instructions here?

Thanks!

The reason I wrote this guide is because the guide you linked to does not work well for Verizon users. Follow my instructions step by step and all will be well. You MAY have to call in for an A Key when you are done.

a couple questions for my fellow verizon users. are people still having gps sync issues with the new rom. I followed these directions to a T and am using the new DCD rom. but am still facing some issues with connecting (as in it takes a while to connect to a satellite) is there any way around this? I tried using GPS gate and still have the same issues.

Yeah, was outside just now and unable to connect. Didn't try a reset.

Yup, it worked flawlessly for me. The only issue I had was that I had to call verizon because no calls would go out after I was on the new ROM.

If I decided to try a new custom ROM am I going to have to call them again? They might get annoyed with me. :)

1) Only when uprading the radio (not the OS ROM) **I've discovered that running the stock upgrade programs seems to copy your settings out then restore them after the program. This has prevented me from having to call every time.
2) They haven't gotten annoyed with me yet

Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM

I called them 3 times (no joke) last night for a new A key and no one got annoyed. The final guy I talked to told me to write it down and as long as I don't call them, I could re-use the one he gave me as they only regenerate a new one if you call. Unsure if this is true or not as I haven't started to mess with my phone today...

To enter it if its lost - you'll be able to tell as a *228 option 1 will say "unable to authenticate your phone" - press ##778# for Sprint radio (or if on No2Chem's latest just go to EPST settings under advanced settings I think), edit, 000000 for unlock code, View info, A-key, enter the humongous 26 digit number, menu and save I think....

Hope this helps and what ever you do, if you upgrade to the Sprint radio DO NOT DO A *228 option 2 or you may brick your phone!

Update: re-using the same A key didn't work....getting another one now...
