I have ROM 2.09, can I use SpriteBackup to go back if I don't like the new ROM?

I currently have ROM 2.09 and just backed up my settings. QUestion is if I upgrade to the new ROM, but don't like it, can I just use SpriteBackup to go back to 2.09 or is the ROM upgrade something that SpriteBackup can't change?
