Exclamation ebmorgan's Mogul 3.35 ROM review

MAJOR ISSUE:
(SOLVED! SEE MAJOR ISSUE UPDATE #2 BELOW)

I was able to reproduce the problem.....IT'S CONFIGURING FOR AN EXCHANGE SERVER!!!!

1. Reflash (Sprint official ver 3.35)
2. skip custom
TEST CALL = OK

3. Install Advamded Config 1.1
4. Unlock ExtROM with AdvConf1.1
5. Ran 071210_7500 file, Rilphone2, and IOTA.cab
6. Reboot
TEST CALL = OK

7. Install WM6 threded SMS (non-Palm)
8. Reboot
TEST CALL = OK

9. Installed HTC Home Plugin
10. Reboot
TEST CALL = OK

11. Install HTC Home Customizer v1.0b5
12. Reboot
TEST CALL = OK

13. Went to my mail server's site to get certificate for EAS.
14. Installed certificate.
15. Configured phone ActiveSync for my Exchange Server.
16. Syncronized.
TEST CALL = FAILED!

17. Reboot
TEST CALL = FAILED!

HOLY ****! Configuring for an Exchange Server broke the phone!!!!! WTF Sprint!!!!

MAJOR ISSUE UPDATE: Pkay...I did another reflash and let the customizations run automatically....simulating a new device purchase....and everything works fine. There is something else in the ExtROM that needs to be run besides the main 071210_7500 file, IOTA app, and RilPhone2. Maybe the "ChngScutAtrib" file? Maybe the "hidden" file?

MAJOR ISSUE UPDATE #2: Okay....this was happening because after the reflashes I wasn't running the IOTA config app. Now that I run the IOTA after a reflash everything works fine. NOTE: IOTA config setting are stored in the EPST. So, hard resets do not effect IOTA setting. ONLY REFLASHING RESETS IOTA SETTING TO AN UNPROVISIONED STATE.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I though I would post my experience with the new LOOOONG awaited official ROM, 3.35, for the Sprint Mogul.

I conduct all my testing from the exact same location: sitting at my desk in my office in Redmond,WA.

I WANT TO MAKE THIS CLEAR: YOU MUST LET THE EXTENDED ROM CUSOMIZATION RUN AFTER THE FLASH. THEN YOU CAN DO A HARD RESET.

Test Config:
Bootloader: Works fine with the latest Olipro. NO NEED TO RELOCK
Extended ROM: Yes (a must)
Registry: unmodified
Available RAM: 24.66MB
Installed software: Live Search

Test Results:
Rev.A: 2.25MB down/856K up. This is up from ~1MB down/134k up. This makes sense since max return link speed on Rev.0 is 158k and Rev.A is 1.8MB.
GPS: Works PERFECTLY and QUICKLY with stock settings. I used Live Search with no config setup. Default is "GPS Intermediate Driver". I just went to map, then mexu-->center on current location. Aquires position in about 10 seconds. No initial wait of +5 minutes!....YAAAAYYYY!
GPS Software: Sprint TeleNav is included! Works flawlessly with Live Search.
Responsiveness: Everything runs WAY smoother. Virtually no wait for "things to happen".
No Sprint TV
Mobile MySpace works now!

UNCONFIRMED (still need to test):
Memory leak (but this is a WM6 issue...not HTC or Sprint)
Bluetooth performance & common issues (I have to charge my H700...)
Need to test Google Maps
EAS
Domain joining
miniSD Encryption

I'll update this first post as I test more.

Some have rev A disabled by default. Would you be able to post directions on how to enable?

Mine is also disabled in the EPST. This is how the ROM comes stock. I enabled it and my speeds dropped CONSIDERABLEY.

Re: ebmorgan's Mogul 3.35 ROM review

Do you think your speed drop was due to provisioning? Maybe Rev a had to be provisioned to your phone before it would work at rev a speeds?

When you ran you 2mb/800kb test did you do it on the phone or tethered to a computer?

Re: ebmorgan's Mogul 3.35 ROM review

Just wanna say, enabling rev a from EPST slows my connection down considerably also, whether tethered or through the phone. The worst part about enabling that option isn't that it effects overall bandwidth so much (even tho it does), the worst part is the latency it seems to add.

Re: ebmorgan's Mogul 3.35 ROM review

I have no idea what the EPST setting does, but any upspeed in the several hundred kb range is RevA....I really notice a difference when I send my family video clips...It used to take forever and now, they *beam* out of my device. (bad pund intended).

Re: ebmorgan's Mogul 3.35 ROM review

Why "must" we let the Sprint custimization run? I typically don't as I don't have a desire for what is usually provided.

I did do a hard reset, I do think that is important.

Please enlighten me!

Sorry, what exactly does this mean? Doesn't the Sprint customization run again after a hard reset? Or am I being a noob.

Re: ebmorgan's Mogul 3.35 ROM review

What do you use for tethering? The default ICS program or something like pdanet? If you use the ICS program, did it just work right of the box? Also, do you have a separate tethering plan from sprint?

Re: ebmorgan's Mogul 3.35 ROM review

It has been found that many things happen to the device during the customizations. Most problems people have after flashing are eleviated if the ExtROM is ran. Don't do it if you don't want to...just be prepared to have issues.

Second...tethering. I tether through ICS with no issue. I have a SERO plan...so no explicit PAM plan....but it has been somewhat determined that SERO account allow tethering. In ICS, you want to use the "Sprint PCS" option....not "Phone as modem".
