WM 6.1 and borked text messaging

Has anyone figured out how to fix the "threaded" text messaging "feature" that we seem to be stuck with, with the current ROM releases? Having 1200 messages, appear as 5 "threads" is dumb. If there's no resolution, will have to "upgrade" WM6.

any hints or tips appreciated!
