That would explain why hybrid mode is quicker.
my understanding is smartmode is for serverbased apps, ie sprintnav/telnave...
if default is enabled the gps is trying to send/recive data it can't use (unless aforementioned app is "listening" for it)

OK, notice a bit further down in the same location in the registry it refers to a server IP and port ( alc126.alcatel.be [195.207.101.126]). WTF am I sending to an Alcatel server in Germany?

I don't know if its no2's 5065 or the fact that I have a brand new Mogul... but my GPS is 100% reliable now. It takes less than 10 seconds to get a fix, no matter if I'm in a building or outside (though if I'm outside, the fix is immediately accurate), and I don't have to soft reset after using it or having the phone on for awhile before it works again.

I checked his settings and its set at 2... So I don't know what's up but my GPS kicks *** at this point.

I tried the registry changes and had great results intitially after soft-resetting. Locked in 10 seconds or less. I tried out Sprint Nav, Google Maps, Windows Live Search, and finally Garmin XT. It worked perfectly for the first three, but I think Garmin XT somehow screwed up settings, because after running it and soft resetting, it was as if I never did the registry changes...took 5 minutes to lock again, but the registry changes I made had not reverted back.

I did the registry hack again and it's working perfectly again. I have not run Garmin XT again and don't plan to. I think it is responsible for many of us losing the AGPS functionality enabled by the registry hack.

I tried to check that out... .be is Belgium, not Germany, and I found this "explanation" of what that Alcatel site does...
Quote:

  • OSP architecture allows scalability up to a distributed architecture with multi-processor nodes supporting up to more then 1000 transactions per second (TPS); large volumes of data can be handled by the service data point (SDP), which shares the data across several applications in line with an operational logic
  • Java-based standard platform access; automatically generated Java graphical user interfaces provide application management, database population, and user self-provisioning
  • Reliability and dependability can be offered on several levels depending on necessary hardware and software redundancy schemes; supported configurations include active/stand-by, load sharing and mated pair (supported for all nodes)
  • Installed base of SCPs and SMPs at 60 operators of which 25 operate full IT-based systems prove service design and testing and deployment competence; operational capacities of 700 CAPS on full IT systems indicate reliability and scalability of service execution
  • Standard IT tools are used throughout the service lifecycle and on the execution platform itself; optional tight link with CCSS#7 and INAP; protocol independence is achieved via an extension of the existing INAP-version, and proven with operational implementation

Does anybody here speak this language? Is it just saying that aGPS is a distributed processing application, and we are using a server in Belgium to direct the distributed processing?

Holy crap, thanks!
I get a lock with about 6 satellites in less than 3 seconds... while in my room!
