+1 for the placebo effect.
Pretty convinced it does nothing.

mstevens, I can't explain your results expect for perhaps it was soon after after a recent fix that it re-aquired rather quickly.

jrebeiro, I'm not sure if you need to travel that far for it to need a complete new aquisition. Another thing to try is a different time of day, since the sky will have shifted.

pair this with the HTC Performance OEM, and your device will seem to run faster, and seem to find satellites faster... coool!

+1 for it does work. Probably as with everything YMMV. But if it doesn't work for you, I don't think it is enough to conclude it does nothing. Like it was said earlier at least it does nothing and at most it significantly improves fix time and accuracy.

I am in a dorm with decent cell reception but I have never been able to pick up any satellites in here. If I go to the window I can see a few, but I still can never get a fix in here. I have tried many times. I just flashed DCD 2.3 which has aGPS enabled by default. I have not used the GPS in a while, and I just flashed a new ROM, so there is no existing location data to help speed the fix. This was a cold fix. I started up GPStest and I was still unable to get any satellites. I walked over to the window and in five seconds I had a fix with 10 satellites (I am not exaggerating either). So I conclude that is does work. I also tried making a phone call while I had a fix. I lost several satellites, but the GPS continued to function and I did not loose the fix. When I hung up it almost instantly went back up to 10 satellites.

+1 for it does work, i have two moguls, so i tried it with one of them, the one that had it connected much faster than other one and got more satelites indoors, when i also did the second phone both connected at the same speed with same number of satellites with much improvment than with out the aGPS fix. much appreciated for that mod :) ...

real world test.

GPS not used for more then a day. Last used in stand alone mode (1)
Enabled agps (made it 4) and soft reset...
Ran GPS Viewer.
Some readings in 1 min... lock at 1:15 (identical performance vs standalone mode)
Change back to 1
soft reset
Run GPS Viewer...
Instalock... lol Of course, since it had just got the lock before the soft reset :D

I call placebo.

Ace, the reg edit will not enable gps - you have to flash the new rom + radio

+1

Not certain about the QuickGPS improvements either. Similar test?

I think it only ever worked once. The first time I tried it (yes it was a very cold lock) it caught ten sats in about three seconds at the window of a building where I never could get a lock before. Ever since then it has been performing no better than before I did the hack.

So is the consensus that this hack works or is a waste of time?
