Re: An Easy Guide to Upgrading

I took the plunge and upgraded last night.

Just a few notes based on my own experience:
  1. Read through at least half of this thread so you'll know some of the possible "gotchas" ahead of time.
  2. Do this on a 32-bit machine. The relocker won't work on a 64-bit system and you may get stuck in the bootloader.
  3. Don't do this when you're in a hurry. You'll want to have a couple of hours free, partly in case of trouble, and partly to have time to play with new features!
Yep, I got stuck in the bootloader last night because I have a 64-bit machine. I had taken the time to read through a bunch of the posts, which helped me figure out what to do.

It was worth it to see the GPS lock in. Okay, so it thinks I'm next door, but considering I'm not moving and I'm in the corner of the home office that's just a few yards from the house next door, that's about as close as I was expecting.

Now to go restore contacts and software!

WOW!!! What a refreshing respite from the "Help I bricked my phone because I did not want to read about upgrading before blindly trying it" posts.

May the Schwartz be with you!

Thanks, and with you as well!

Actually, I did leave out the wailing, gnashing of teeth, renting of garments and general cussin' that took place after I got stuck in the bootloader.

It really wasn't THAT bad. Just a little frustrating. But there's some very good information here. Thanks, all!
