Doing our part, compiling 3.16 standard Bug List
It seems to me that this new ROM was almost certainly leaked with the knowledge of some/all Sprint or HTC employee Mogul developers in response to our pleas for public beta testing. Maybe it was too complicated to create an official program, with potential legal issues and such, so they just leaked a ROM to test the issues.
Since we asked for this, I think we should do our part. So far, it seems like we have made a less clear effort to do that than with the aborted ~2.16 release. Within a day of that release there were neat concise summary threads with issues listed that were agreed upon by large portions of the community. That might have helped Sprint decide to remove that release, know where to start fixing it, and consider a beta program. However, I am not sure that the same results are appearing this time. The main discussion seems to be a 40 page thread with infinite conflicting claims of what is and is not working. Already, many users are making different custom versions of the release with different radios and applying other hacks. It might be difficult for anyone to make any sense of all of this, especially if the vast majority of users end up with hacked versions and arent testings what we were probably given to test. At the moment, I cannot test the new ROM. However, I just wanted to get the point across. If anyone has time and likes getting these leaked ROMs, they should probably try to help document and concisely list the problems. If anyone does not like getting these leaked roms they should probably install the most unique possible hacked version of the ROM, install as many 3rd party apps as possible, remove some of the standard sprint software without being sure what it is, post every problem they encounter once as a new problem with the ROM, and contact Sprint tech support about it. I don't know if I should be the one to say all this, but I could not find anyone else saying it. I think if we are doing beta testing in some sense, we need to try to stick closer to testing the standard package we are given. - Marc |
What makes you assume there's bugs? Everything works fine and dandy. 100% perfection.
Oh first bug I found, it says "For Testing Purposes Only". Load it up, this thread is a waste comming from someone who didnt even look at it. |

I'll pitch in for one comment real quick: I seem to drop my data connection a lot more than before, it usually says something like "the remote party has terminated this session". Something along those lines. |
I agree with mcoope3...if this was an intentional leak in order to allow Beta testing by users, and we do not have a substantial number of users loading this ROM as it was leaked and posting concise reports of problems, then HTC will probably not give us the opportunity again.
In other words, treat this as a Beta testing opportunity as opposed to a christmas present. Put off your natural desire to play with changing the ROM package and instead play with the ROM package as it was given to us. So far, HTC probably thinks that most in the community were not serious about really wanting to Beta test. edit: So far, we have one vote for "100% perfection"...you guys want to let that stand and be the message given to HTC developers? edit2: If this was NOT an intentional leak to allow us to Beta test, maybe if we treat it as one then HTC will see the advantage and give us the Beta testing opportunity next time. |

Either way, find an issue post about the issue, dont just forcast issues so you have something to read. Go contribute, load the damn rom and test it out yourself was the point I was trying to get across. |
There are several bugs with this release, cohowap. If you havent used it at all, you have no room to come in here and waste space with your post.
As for the bugs, I have not cornered what causes it, but the device randomly freezes sometimes when the power button is pressed to send the phone into suspend mode. I think it has happened usually after messing with GPS, but that might not be the cause. As for claiming less than 20 hours after its release that there arent any bugs, yea that is retarded. |
Here are the problems I had w/ the test rom
in some area w/ good signals (3+ bars), once i turned the phone part completely off, holding the red phone button for a few seconds and release, it took for ever to find the towner again after i turned it on in some area w/ not very good signals (1~2 bars), i used another phone to call my mogul #, the calling phone either went into voicemail of my mogul very quickly or took 4 or 5 times longer to get into my mogul's voicemail. In the first case, i didn't see any incoming call on my mogul, in the second case, i saw the incoming call notification popped up and disappeared for a few times while the calling phone was constantly ringing. regarding GPS, once the screen is turned off by WM6 power save mode, TomTom lost the connection to com4, once i turned it on again, i had to use google map to init the port again. not sure if it's supposed to like that ... |
I installed the ROM last night when it first hit the form. The first time I installed it, the software crashed 3x and had to be restarted. I finally got it loaded and then installed it again.
Once the SPL was updated, i restarted the install and it worked fine. I had to program the phone with the correct MSID and MDN so make sure you know those numbers before you flash:) It took me three tries to get the phone synched to my Windows Vista computer but it works great now. The biggest problem I have seen is not being able to get a data connection consistently. I wonder if I need another PRL. Anyone know how to download a fresh one? Also, it took 10 tries to get the GPS connected to Google Maps. I guess it was trying to download something before it would tell me my location. It is working inside the house too:) All in all, I am glad I upgraded. It was scary when the installer software got stuck on the color bars but it finally installed. All I can say is have your settings written down before you install. Donna |
Bugs I have encountered:
1) GPS didn't work until hard reset 2) Takes 5-10 minutes to pick up 1x/Ev signal after soft reset. I reset the info in ##DATA# and changed my vision password to initiate IOTA but it hasn't come through yet. It did pick up a signal within a few seconds but when I try to connect to vision, I now get error 67.3) No longer can roam on Verizon towers I took it out in DC today and while I had a great EVDO signal out on the street, as soon as I got into the metro, I went to 1x on Verizon's tower and couldn't get any data. I used to be able to do data roaming on VZW on the metro.4) Sometimes have to soft reset to get GPS fix I had GPS working great yesterday. Went to bed. Today when I was out and about I couldn't find any satellites with Gmaps or Live. Soft reset and it worked fine.5) Initial attempt to use GPS can make phone unresponsive for 3-5 minutes or lock up requiring a soft reset. Sometimes the first time I use GPS it will freeze up the phoneWill edit with step-by-step of what I try as I go along. |
Well I have issues with Microsoft Voice 1.6 command working from the bluetooth earpeice and am currently looking into registry issues. I am impressed with the bluetooth audio quality so far.
|
@ neodorian
I didnt have any of the problems you are experiencing. GPS worked for me without hard reset, and I get a signal instantly even though I am in a terrible area for signal strength. Also I am pretty sure I can still roam on verizon. Did you change any settings on your phone? |
im having a hard time (even harder than usual) getting activesync to connect, half the time it doesnt even recognize that anything is plugged in
when it does it installs a new LAN connection and tries to pull an IP (as if internet sharing were running but it isnt) AS never connects while this is trying to get an IP, so it just times out of the few times its connected i usually lose the connection within 5 minutes i went back to 2.17 and AS worked as it usually does, upgraded to 3.16 and same problems again |
Its really strange to see so many degrees of success or issues, but for me it was a breeze.
1. I relocked my phone 2. I then activesynced 3. I then ran the new rom 4. Full upgrade without a hitch(yes it was that easy, of course my fingers were crossed the entire time) I didn't have to hard reset again, I didn't need anything to be reprovisioned. Even during the upgrade it didn't freeze or lock up or anything it went right through from 0% to 100%. I have since re-loaded all my usual programs and have used my phone all day for the usual stuff plus messing with gps and I haven't had one single issue. |
My installation hung quite badly, but this was probably due to a combination of using the olipro bootloader and Vista. I was eventually able to recover by re-flashing the current official ROM, re-locking (which I thought I'd before ever starting, but it appeared not to have taken), then finding an XP machine. I was NOT able to load the new ROM from a freshly-formatted (FAT32) microSD card - it hung at about 11% then gave a bad flash error message. Nothing happened to my MDN or MSID during the process.
Thus far, I can't get any GPS stuff to work. Since I don't have any other software installed besides Google Maps, I suppose I mean I can't get GM to work. No, I haven't messed with any settings. Yes, I did stand outside in the snow under a clear blue sky for 20 minutes. It is conceivable that this may be related to the fact that there is no cellular service near my house. I was connected via a fast WiFi connection, though. Google Maps just says "12 KB. Seeking GPS satellites (0)..." alternating with "12 KB. GPS active(0)..." I don't know if this is really a bug or just misconfiguration. |
My google maps woundnt find me until I used Live Search to locate me, then google maps popped right in.
Also this ROM puts a voicemail icon on the 1 key which screws up the keypad if you are using bluefrogs big button dialer. To Correct this just change the key at HKCU/Control Panel/PhoneExtendedFunction/CDMA/Enablevoicemailicon change the value to 0 and soft reset. I have also noticed that I lot of downloads hang, have good coverage and they hang at various places, but I couldnt download livesearch cab from my phone, it also happed to another couple of files |

I didn't change anything after the flash aside from hard and soft resetting. |

Well, I was testing out MS Voice Command. The good news is that you can now confirm your commands through a BT headset (ex: "Dial 555-2424" "Dial 555-2424?" "Yes").
Bad news, I can't actually hear the text-to-speech engine anymore. Lol! It still responds to my commands, but the confirmations won't play through either the headset or the speaker. Also, I notice that my phone sometimes hangs for about ten seconds or so when waking up. It does this about 15% of the time. GPS through Google Maps and Sprint Nav works perfectly, though. Rev A seems to be working. Although the download is only marginally better than Rev 0 in my area, the upload is noticeably better. Went from around 40 k to 150 k. Almost no lag time in surfing through the phone-as-modem anymore. So yeah, the only major thing I've found so far is the lack of voice for MS Voice Command. |
I am impressed
I have the mogul and was running version 2.17 before installing everything was stock ROM and this install is stock also. Very excited about Navigation being implemented and GPS working also.
1) Have been trying to get sprint TV to work but after initializing and out of 3 options and choosing sprint TV it just sits there like it is trying to load channels. 2) Sprint Navigation did take a few times of starting it, to get it all initialized and working but now that it is setup it is working great. 3) I also am having some issues with Microsoft Voice Command 1.6, have not gotten voice dialing to work yet using this program, Cyber Voice speed dial seems to work but I cannot stand having to make tags. Will add more as I notice them, and I hope this was there intention for us to beta test it and get feedback, it sure would make sense. |
Ok,
I didn't want to be the one to post this thread but it seemed no one else was bringing up these subjects. I cannot test the ROM myself right now for several reasons. I have a new computer that came with Vista so installing is more of a pain for me. I listed to audiobooks downloaded from my local libraries overdrive-based service which have a form of DRM on them to enforce a 14 day check-out period. Once loaded onto a device you have forever to listen to them, but after 14 days the version on your computer is gone and cannot be reloaded to the device. So, if I reload my OS I lose the audiobook I am in the middle of, which right now is 'The Coldest Winter' about the Korean War and is rather long. Third, I am writing the final pages of my MS thesis and I am rather busy. But there is nothing wrong with me not being in a good situation to be a beta tester. The bad thing will be if the people who do test the ROM do not test it in a good useful way and everyone ends up using some hacked combination of 3.16 beta, 2.17, other radios, 3rd party software, and registry hacks that they find most stable. Probably Sprint/HTC can't practically release such a frankenstein monster build. So, it would be nice if some of those testing 3.16 try to test it with a fairly vanilla install and try to find consensus on problems it has and list them concisely. I see one thread on the problems of 3.16 and whether it is better or worse. The title and OP are riddled with spelling and grammatical errors. This is not the stuff that will convince Sprint/HTC that our community should be allowed to beta test. Beta testing is about finding bugs in what we are given so fixes can provide stability. It is not about hacking to find the best stability from present and past code cominations and then testing that combo of present and past code. Even if the leak was not intentional. The response to the leak could still give Sprint/HTC a picture of how well beta testing officially would or would not work. Again, I have no right to be the one saying this, it is just that nobody else did. I would hope that some responsible involved member of the community who is a better human being than me can attempt to start a new concise organized thread to document bugs, rather than building their own 3.16/2.16/7/Vogue/Kaiser/1.47/olipro/noextdrom/etc kitchen. |
A couple of problems I have ran into:
1. Take forever (at least 10 minutes) to find a tower signal after soft reset. 2. I am still not able to get my Yahoo email to download through the Messaging app. It works fine through Yahoo Go if I select Check Now, but even it will not Push email. Email is more important to me than GPS, so I guess I will be flashing back to stock 2.17 |

I have noticed that the SPB Backup program hangs when trying to backup.
I have had none of the GPS or delays in acquiring signal after a soft reset like others have described. |
I upgraded to the new Beta ROM, and it would appear that I'm the only one that's lost all ability to use Bluetooth on my Mogul.
I've tried asking around within the main threads but the fast pace of them has led to my posts being buried. I just need to know if there's any reg edits or CAB'd downloads that I can use to reactivate Bluetooth on my phone. I really don't want to Hard Reset or reflash my phone and go through the ROM process again(outside of Bluetooth, it was a great install for me). Anyone able to help? |
So far, I have only noticed two main issues that remain unresolved.
1) Taking forever to get signal after soft-reset. However, this past time I did a soft reset, it had signal immediately. Maybe it was just a coincidence or something. 2) Data connection randomly drops out and gives error "Remote party closed connection." I noticed this a few times running ICS, and my phone said that this morning after leaving the phone all night (I have my connection set to AlwaysOn). After this error, it reconnects fine, but having to reconnect is a pain in the balls. |
bugs for me so far.
1) PIE wont load some websites that it used to have no problem with... even the accuweather link that is included in the factory favorites. 2) im getting alot of dropped internet connections. i notice this while streaming music. 3) problems getting a signal after soft reset. 4) i cant get a lock on any satellites if i am moving, i have to stop and wait for them to lock in before i can move. 5) randomly my GPS location will start bouncing around a two or so block radius for a little bit until it gets its act together. thats it for now...im sure ill find more. |
My download speed seems to have dropped by half, which is really odd.
|
Is there anyone that can help guide me with my Bluetooth not working?
What tweaks or the like can I use to make sure Bluetooth will work correctly? I really don't want to hard reset and it seems like nobody has given an answer to me on here or xda(something I find quite out of the ordinary). |

It won't let me load the old rom. Is anyone esle having this problem? |

Same here!! I couldn't download livesearch too. It just hangs at about 5% or so. GPS works fine with Google maps Bluetooth sounds better however with the 2.17 ROM if I pressed the power button to turn the screen off the music still played. With this ROM, pressing power cuts the audio. |
I'm also having pretty bad drops in data transfer. Downloads over 400k take 4-5 attempts. When it does work, it's fast, but it's getting to the point where I'm almost ready to downgrade :(
The signal bars go away for a few seconds (the data arrows stay) and the connection drops. Pissing me off :( |
I also have tried and cannot download any cab files from the phone. Also like AnthroMatt said SPB hangs and will not load. I also notice that TOMTOM will not allow the gps to pick up unless it has been acquired via Livesearch or Google Maps first and one of the programs is still running. Also Weather panel gives you an error when loaded, something about invalid layout or waiting on the storage card. But seems to work fine once the layout has been changed.
|
Well, I Hard Reset my Mogul and now Bluetooth works just fine.
How about that. |
I was able to load the new rom easy and without a hitch. after loading it seemed a little skidish and I have had to soft reset more than usual. GPS works great with iNav and googlemaps but takes along time to lock but once locked it seems to work good and stay connected even when I turn it off. I have noticed a DRAMATIC usage in battery life. I did expect to use more battery but this is extreme in my case. I had the battery at 100% at 7:45 and I turned on google maps and locked in the GPS. Took a 10 minute drive and went into the club for a swim, when I went in I turned off the mogul. I did not take any calls, no text, and I have yet to set up email. I also did not do any IE. At 9:45 when I came out of the club and turned on my phone I was already down to 60%!!!!

No RevA here. I'm in one of those "extra" Evdo areas where it actually comes from Alltel instead of Sprint even though you aren't roaming. No change in data speed that I've noticed. Slingbox works just like before...great.
GPS works good. Sometimes it is off by 100-150 yards at times but works good for a phone GPS. Even picks up inside some buildings. Here's the big kicker for me. With Rom 2.17 and PRL 60610, I can set the phone to Roaming Only and get EVDO service. After I load this ROM and it is still at PRL 60610, when force roaming I only get 1X. Using the ##DEBUG# I can see the phone sometimes pick up Verizon....attach...then it finds the Alltel SID and I'm assume it's preferred so it sticks to Alltel. Still 1X, I can see it hit channel 73 which is the EVDO channel and passes right on by. So basically when I go back to work next week I'll have 1X only instead of EVDO in the building since Sprint's signal stops at the door of the building. I'll definitely be bringing the older ROM to reflash so I can get EVDO back up. So fix the roaming issues in the radio and it'll be great! |
Loaded 3.16...WOW
Summary: the only things I would add to a bug list so far, if someone is compiling it, are the unfriendly ROM loader, and the DNS servers were set to all zeroes. As detailed below I am not seeing a lot of the issues that were reported in this thread on my device. Details: I have not put it through its paces yet, but first indications are great. I hope loading could be made more user-friendly; after it loaded the new BL it required me to unplug the device and remove/replace the battery. After it resumed I went to eat dinner, and when I came back it was done, so I don't know if it paused at any point after that. Since I was testing the Sprint ROM, I let all the customizations load. I went in to Phone>Menu>Options>Services>Internet and started IOTA manually, then I had to fix the MSID and MDN. I left SCI at the default of 2, and the True MCC and True IMSI were different but I left them to see what that would do. I have not noticed any effect. Sync thru WMDC on Vista seems blazingly fast after using it on the 2 series ROMs, but is probably actually the same speed as I used to get on my xv6600 and Activesync on Win XP. And the Mogul no longer seizes up during sync; I could actually use it at the same time it was syncing. GPS - I did not touch the External GPS settings, after all I was testing internal GPS, and iGuidance 3.0.1 popped to my location about 10 seconds after I set it to Com4 and 9600 baud. Latitude and longitude were rock solid, but my altitude was varying from about -50 feet to about 30 feet. I was indoors and locked onto 4 satellites. Turned the device off (sleep mode) and dialed it from a landline, it woke up and rang on the second ring heard on the landline, despite the fact that I left SCI at the default of 2. I set up my gmail account, works properly. I had some problems locating websites, so I setup the DNS servers (it was all zeroes) and the problem went away. The best download speed I could get on DSLReports Mobile Speed Test was 640 kb. That test does not indicate upload speed. I did not tether. Sprite Backup works properly, though I have not tried a Restore yet. The Mogul boots up quickly from a soft reset, and locks on to EVDO signal immediately. So far I am VERY happy with the ROM. |
I am currently downloading, hopefully I am one of the lucky ones because I am kinda scared to load it.
|
Ive noticed that the internet drops sometimes. Its not like it used to be when the bit rate degrades, instead,it seems to be running perfectly, then nothing. It seems to be connected to windows mobile becoming unstable. When it happens the Xbutton icon at the top of the screen becomes corrupted and the phone becomes very sluggish and I cant start applications.
