On windows mobile, the text messaging was kinda a hack of the email client, hence why you had a deleted history. On android and newer platforms the text message client is dedicated so once its deleted there is no point of keeping deleted history. You may be able to restore the lost files but considering you already used your phone for a bit that makes it unlikely.

sigh.... that was my fear. Oh well, thanks for the responses! I now have a backup plan in case it happens again.

It is very easy to lost or delete important text messages from Samsung Galaxy S4 by accident deletion, carelessly resetting, rooting and other reasons. Have you ever come across this terrible situation? Actually, these deleted messages can be restored from your Samsung GALAXY S4 (GT-I9500/GT-I9505) at ease.

If you back up to iCloud or iTunes, and have not backed up since you deleted the messages, you can restore the backup and they will come back.

Caveat: You will lose all changes made to the phone since the last backup. Whether this is acceptable is entirely up to you.

Simply "erase all content and settings" and restore from the backup.

I also met the same iusse,I mistakenly deleted some important text message from my galaxy s3, some people said it was imporssible to recover them, but some people also said there is some app can recover, I was confused,p lease help. You can recover deleted sms messages from iPhone, if you have made a backup before.

Here is the way you can follow:

1. Connect the iPhone to the computer with a USB cable.
2. Open iTunes.
3. If you have a new or erased iPhone, iTunes will prompt you to restore from backup.
4. Otherwise, Control-click on your iPhone under DEVICES in the left menu.
5. Select Restore From Backup...
6. Choose the backup you wish to sync and click the Restore button.
