Awesome news out of Google I/O guys!

Its so awesome I wrote an article about it:

PPCGeeks.com » Google, Carriers and OEMs Guarantee Timely Android Updates!

And Samsung is on board...so no more will people claim that if you buy a Samsung..or any manufacturer you won't get updated/supported...:P

Now I can't wait for my Ice Cream fix >.> lol

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.2.1; en-us; SPH-D700 Build/FROYO) AppleWebKit/533.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/533.1)

This makes the SG2 look a lot nicer
But hopefully goolge makes it clear to the manufactures and carriers how much time they have to push the updates in I.e. googles tells samsung and sprint you have 1mth from official release of gingerbread to push out the update

Re: Awesome news out of Google I/O guys!

Sounds like just another clever marketing idea. Samsung is going to do whatever is in Samsung's best interests regardless of what Google says. So what if they don't get the update out in the timeline that Google stipulates? I can just see the CEO of Samsung saying "what are you going to do, take away my birthday?"

Re: Awesome news out of Google I/O guys!

this is an awesome change. I hope this means that people will keep their "old" hardware now longer than 6 months. I also think that with ice cream, it will be easier for something like this to happen since they are hopefully separating things out into parts that can more easily be updated.

Re: Awesome news out of Google I/O guys!

From a marketing standpoint it's a great idea, and SHOULD be a positive for the end users. Since this has been made public it would create a PR nightmare for the OEM's and carriers to not follow through on this. I give big props to Google for this.

Re: Awesome news out of Google I/O guys!

i'm with smoke and mirrors dude
if there is anything i have ever seen from a cell phone company
its just "new phone sales"
and with more and more android devices being plopped out by manufacturers i see the update process just going downhill

why be pessimistic you might ask?
well i'm objective when it comes to my analysis
google android is not "designed" for cell phones...albeit the majority of its usage.
if it was...there would be a f'in mandatory BUTTON TO USE THE GODDAMN PHONE
i have many pet peeves with android...but to save you a nightmare of a forum post...
google is and always will be sales based.
while the company has proven to be able to put out many useful things, and in fact probably the most useful "phone operating system"
as best i can tell...we are all just being sold out to the government as another channel for control and oppression
watch how quick you jump up to defend the holy market...it will own you in the end...and all along as well
but you dont mind...do ya...as long as those updates are coming
stay tuned!!! stay tuned!!! while your life is raped from true meaning
all hail their electronic handheld device...your saviour

Re: Awesome news out of Google I/O guys!

Wow, that was an interesting post.
I'm glad for the updates when they can come.

If I sat back and thought about the stuff that the gob'ment can or has done, the rising price of baseball cards, the conspiracy of the oil company to prevent the sale of a car that can make 100miles on a gallon of gas, I'd be sitting home wearing tin foil hats waiting for the black helicopters too.
