according to this article i read on ZDNet the other day, honeycomb is flawed and will be fixed in ice cream whenever it comes out

Isn't ice cream the next in line from gingerbread and not the next in line from honeycomb?

ice cream is the merging of honeycomb and gingerbread.

one thing I don't understand, & haven't since my winmo days is y do ppl look forward to updates on these devices. they are always buggy as hell n perform worse than what was being run previous

Yes and no. There are some buggy parts, but there are also improvements. We couldn't put apps on the SD card before froyo. GPS got better. We added flash support.

Also with the new update were gonna get jit, be able to take more advantage of the processor on this phone and most importantly the Developers which do a awesome job sometimes need that update to be able to give us a better ROM/Theme/Hack etc...
