Battery issues after update?

I apologize if this has been covered, but I cant seem to fix this problem. Every since the sprint update about a month ago, my phone battery will not last more than a couple hours with moderate use. Apps continue to open themselves in the background despite using "Startup Auditor" and "ATK". What can I do to solve this issue? Before the update, I could atleast go a full day without recharging. As of now, a full battery dies over night with absolutely no use. Would flashing a new ROM help this by eliminating some of the pointless features on the phone?

well with a custom rom/kernel you can do things like underclock to get battery life, and CIQ is removed too...

Which apps are you having issues with?

I would suggest removing Startup Auditor and ATK. These are a source of battery suckage. Froyo does a better job of managing the RAM than Eclair did. Android apps share resources, so if you kill apps, they will start backup if the system needs it to run. Some apps need to sit in Preloaded status for faster startup.

Android OS is not like WinMo......

I will attempt to flash a new ROM when tonight when I get home from work. Wish me luck, this will be my first time attempting such a task.

I am having trouble with too many apps to mention. If I kill everything using ATK and wait 15mins, there will be 15 apps running and I havent touched my phone.

I'll try deleting ATK and Startup Auditor and see what happens, but it seems like there will be even more apps running once these are gone. Could be wrong.

Now to do some research on which ROM I want \\:D/

Uh oh, I think I just screwed something up, lol. I deleted the task managers and installed Juice. My phone has been on the charger for the past hour and the batter indicator hasnt budged. It's at 10%!!

9 hours 50 minutes at this time with moderate usage. No 4 G, none needed at this time. My battery usage was 90% the display??? Is it because of the animated wallpaper? Still a lot better than I experienced on the HTC Arrive with the same amount of use.

just make a backup of your stuff and factory reset or flash that custom rom and it should be fine...I would suggest if you plan to go EXT4 to go Journaling on.

Yeah, the CPU in the Epic is 45nm vs 65nm in the Arrive and is fairly energy efficient...The display is an energy Hog..might want to lower down Haptic feedback for one.

Here is a formula for energy usage on the display:

Red = 1x
Green = 2x
Blue =3x
White = 6x
Black = 0

So using white is 6 times more energy use over red..Black uses up 0 energy..

Also, you might be both interested in getting the 2 batteries + external charger off ebay..it costs like 8$ and is well worth it...I completely stopped charging my phone, I just leave a battery on external charger...then when I am low I just swap the batteries and put old one on charger and put in new one..rebooting takes like 15secs...

Thanks for all the help folks. I dumped ATK and some other programs moved my contacts to my sd card (dont know if this helped), but my battery seems to be functioning normal again. I'll check out getting the extra battery on ebay also.

I looked into how to flash a rom last night and I'm not sure I want to attempt that right now. I feel like I'll fry my phone.

Anybody know a good signal booster? My phone reception isn't great at work, so my radio isn't coming in like it should.

By signal booster you mean a carry on thing or a box? cause if a box you contact sprint and get the to give you a free airwave...
